What's been your experience with tinnitus and headaches? Or pain in your neck/shoulders?

Hi Nic,

I find the reverse - my tinnitus creates horrible headaches. Particularly at weekends when I am out of my regular routine of working and distracted from my tinnitus. I also find that nothing seems to relieve it - paracetemol, aspirin or ibuprofen. Several times it has got to the stage where I am physically sick. I now tend to try to get up at the same time as week days and keep as busy as possible throughout the weekend and this has helped somewhat. Strangely the headache is always on the opposite side of my head to my tinnitus.

When my tinnitus is quite intrusive it does cause headaches. My ENT consultant advised me of this some years ago saying, many of her tinnitus patients are affected in this way.

In my case when my Tinnitus frequency gets high ( a bit like scraping a bit of glass) I do get bad Headaches which is mainly on the left side of my Head the pain sometimes goes down to my jaw the worse time is at night when I’m trying to sleep. This got to the point I had to go to my GP’s he suggested I try using Amitriptyline which seemed to have helped (I have had Anxiety problems over the years)

Hi Nic, the headache and tinnitus were one and the same thing for the first 6 months of the onset of my T ~ the pain was worse than the worst headache ever known to me. I get occasional spikes, sometimes with headaches. I believe it is important to drink more water and keep well hydrated. Angela xx
