Advice for musical tinitus

I am posting for help and advice in regard to my mum, I think she is suffering from musical tinitus... musical hallucination. She has suffered from tinitus for years and her hearing loss has become quite severe over the last 4 or 5 years. She has been talking about not sleeping because of noise, and I have just had a conversation with her where she said "there is a tannoy system playing religious music which settles in her room about 3am. It is all church songs about jesus. Your dad can't hear it, I have brought him to the room and he still can't here it! It is real! I am not going mad"...

Does anyone have any advice?

If there is anyone in the Gloucester area who she could talk to, that knows what she is going through... I don't know what to do I don't want to upset her.

My mum also had musical tinnitus. She is 89 and said that during the night she was woken by a neighbour playing music. The said neighbour was away at the time so neighbour wasn't to blame. Could she listen to a sound machine or white noise to distract her from tinnitus

What sort of sound machine?

how would that work as her hearing is really bad and she doesn't use her hearing aids at night? Which is making it awkward as nobody else can hear it she is worrying that she is loosing the plot.

Is something along the lines of a tinitus mask?

It would be awkward if her hearing really bad. I would get appointment to go to audiology and find out if they can help

Thank you I will do, and I really appreciate your response to my post, as not many people seem aware of this condition, they look at you like I should be getting her help from a psychologist. This is what is worrying her as well so she is reluctant to talk about it.

I did have musical tinnitus when I first had tinnitus. I still have tinnitus and hearing loss. There is such a thing as musical tinnitus and your mum is not going mad. Hope you get the help you need.

I had an aunty who suffered with musical tinnitus. She could hear fairground music. She did manage to come to terms with it and lead a normal life. She too had hearing loss.

My mum is 75, wears hearing aids and has musical tinnitus. She is not mad or does not have any mental health disorders (that we know of). She reports that at night when things goes quiet that she hears a tune playing repeatedly. She states that it sounds like she has left a radio on downstairs. The tune never changes, it is quite melodic. It does not annoy her at all. She told her GP who more or less said that if it does not cause her any difficulties then just leave things as they are.

Funny old world.

Musical tinnitus is not a psychological problem, and I have removed the unhelpful comment that suggested it could be - this does cause many people not to seek help for what is a manageable condition.
