Hello Boo153, T is a horrible thing without doubt. I have had a high pitched whistle in my right ear and hyperacusis in my left ear for 14months.

I am really sorry that you are not coping well at the moment. I and many others on this forum have been in the dark hole caused by T. Depression, anxiety and insomnia. It feels that you will never be able to have a normal life again. All I can say is "hang in there". Very slowly life does get better. It is small steps but each day that you do not give up you are winning.

Take all the help that your GP offers. This may be anti depressants of something to help with the anxiety. It will be only short term until you get back on top of this thing.

I know that you think that your life is over but hold onto the fact that it will get better. There are a whole bunch of fellow sufferers out there who are cheering for you. The first year is the worst then you will begin to get your life back.

Wait to you see the number of replies that you get!!!

In my thoughts

Ade

Hi, it's probably small comfort now, but you will become more accustomed to T, but it does take time. I'm about 10 months in and initially it knocked me for 6 as it came on pretty badly after a head injury. I've been on Sertraline for about 7 months now which has definitely helped. I'd thought sleeping tablets were the answer, but my GP prescribed anti depressants/anxiety meds. Definitely speak to your audiology specialist about in-ear white noise maskers as they help me enormously on bad days. Good luck, Steve

What. Is ear white noise I've heard of listening to white noise but it just makes me worst I can't even watch TV without crying 😢

It's like a small hearing aid that plays a soft white noise directly into the ear (s). Volume can be adjusted and is normally set just below the level of your Tinnitus by the audiologist. The idea is your brain is distracted from the T noise and therefore pays less attention and in turn, reduces your anxiety reflex to the racket in your ears/head 👍🏻

Hi who given you this hearing aid is it from ENT

SteveFeldo profile image
SteveFeldo in reply to Boo153

Yep, you'll need to get a referral from your GP to an audiologist, this shouldn't take too long, the wait for ENT is generally a lot longer unless you go privately. Good luck 👍🏻

Hi can smoking make your tinitus worst

SteveFeldo profile image
SteveFeldo in reply to Boo153

Probably, as it ultimately impairs proper blood circulation. I don't smoke so don't have first hand experience.

Hi Steve,

Did you receive the maskers through the NHS as I have been told these are not supplied anymore by Audiology locally. Probably postcode lottery ,

Thanks

Hi Boo153,

I feel for you and like may others can relate. I hope you find some comfort in the good advice you have already been given and there is some invaluable advice from other people on here.. I agree with Adeosoba about seeing your GP. Anti- depressants and meds for anxiety can help, although not a cure, they are beneficial as a "crutch" to help lift you during the darkest times giving you strength to then battle on and try all your self help strategies. If you do decide to go this route, please dont give up if the first meds prescribed dont help as can be trial and error and take time to find one that suits but hopefully you may find this straightaway. I have had T since 2011 and really struggled that first year. Even though I found my life changed due to spikes I did like many others eventually accept it, I am hanging on to the thought that it did improve before through this current difficult time Im having although this time I am finding Hyperacusis a problem so am with you on the TV , I think have probably worn out the volume button! Subtitles might help if you are ok with them, although I dont use these if watching with my Hubby as drives him bonkers. I sometimes use them if struggling due to sensitivity and then not been able to understand what was said above the Tinnitus . Sometimes just end up recording and switch to relaxing music and try on a better day. I can understand the feeling of not enjoying things anymore, I try and still do things even though often feel numb and distant even sometimes if its only putting on a mask in front of family as I know is temporary and will enjoy all these things again. I know you feel your life is over but hang in there as Adeosoba says, life keeps on giving and hopefully you'll soon feel this again. In the meantime I hope you find some strength and peace of mind from others experience on here how things have improved.

Best Wishes : )

Well. I went hospital last week and I had large amount of wax which was quite hard has been there since last year and told me I had blister in my ear witch mite be cause my sensitivity I hope

Don't give up hope as some medication can help you.

For sleep a low antidepresant long term is better than sleeping tablets.

Amitryptaline or nortryptaline can help sleep, anxiety and calm down tinnitus.

Love glynis x

Hello Boo153. I'm glad that you found the forum, as I'm sure the members here will tell you that life does go on, things won't always be as bleak as they appear now, and that over time your tinnitus is very likely to get better.

Why don't you check out our sister site takeontinnitus.co.uk - it's short little bite sized videos, exercises and information to help you manage your tinnitus. And if you need to speak to a person in "real time" then give our helpline 0800 018 0527 a call.

Best wishes

Nic

Hiya I have tinitus the sound has got that intense. That's its causing me really bad anxiety I have had a large amount of wax taken from my ear could that be the cause was told that I had blisters in my ear.

Ear wax can often contribute to tinnitus, and removing it can cause the tinnitus to be more apparent for a while whilst the hearing process adjusts again. For more information, our fact sheet tinnitus.org.uk/ear-wax is worth checking out.

Best wishes

Hi Boo, first thing you must do is get a pair of NHS hearing aids whether the rest of your hearing is normal or not. It's standard practice in Scotland for Tinnitus and will reduce your tinnitus by about 50%, large doses of vitamin B, help too, on the medicinal side I have found Tramadol helps,...The best masker is an online site called MY NOISE a really clever guy, best of luck mate I know what your going through, my shrink placed me on suicide watch in the early days of my tinnitus , regards Jeff
