TinnitusOFF App?

This popped up in my Facebook timeline and looked quite a good idea as it says you can tune a frequency into music, to exactly mask your own unique T sounds. However it's £24 on the App Store and has no ratings. Has anyone come across or used it? Cheers Steve

This is Notched Music Therapy. It's not a new concept - it's been around quite a while now. Basically you have to determine the frequency of your tinnitus sound and then remove that frequency from the music (notch it). It's quite possible to do the "notching" yourself with free software like "Audacity" once you've determined your tinnitus frequency. I tried it myself a couple of years ago without any success I'm afraid. It's actually quite hard to determine your tinnitus frequency. Many people's T doesn't actually have a frequency at all - it's just a sort of white noise. Personally I wouldn't pay £24 for the App. A company called "AudioNotch" have been offering a music notching service for quite a while now. They are subscription based - the prices are on the website. I'm not recommending them either, but they do have a free tone generator you can use to try and determine your tinnitus frequency. You can find it here.. audionotch.com/app/tune/ A word of caution - I just tried it wearing headphones and it seemed really loud to me so I recommend turning your volume down initially before you try it and then adjust the volume to a level you're comfortable with.

Cheers John, that's very useful to know. I'd speculate on the app if it were say a fiver, but 24 quid is a takeaway curry for two!

I must be honest, I don't think anything will 'cure' my tinnitus, I just find relief in my maskers and using carefully selected sounds like nature/wind/ocean on Spotify. Steve

Yes, I just stick with the nature sounds these days. My preferred apps are Relax Melodies: Sleep Sounds by Ipnos and White Noise by TMSOFT. Relax Melodies allows you to mix different sounds together and save the result as a favourite. The free version has quite a good selection of sounds but you get even more if you upgrade to the paid version for a couple of £s. White Noise also has a good selection of sounds and is more straightforward - just select a sound and play it.

Sure once someone says and i think they have what the app is based on then some google and youtube and you might find an identical free one. Wherever you go you see people trying to make a few bucks from people who are indeed suffering in their own zone, 24 pounds seems a bit high bet you some good research and you get the same one for free. D.

Here is a link which is youtube track - i found it helps when working to have it around it blocks out the hum for me but just a thought might help you - you never know - worth a try. I run this one on speakers via laptop not too loud and it seems to work.

Notched music has been around for a while. There's no evidence that it's more effective than your standard music playing through headphones, so save the money for your curry Steve, or go out and buy a couple of CDs from bands you like!

Thanks Nic, I've concluded that there are plenty of free app options available which will do the trick just as well. I also often use nature playlists on Spotify which are quite relaxing and therapeutic. Cheers, Steve
