Ginko Biloba & Tumeric Supplements

Has anyone got any experience of using Ginko and Turmeric supplements and whether they have had any effect, either positive or negative? I've just started using both and it may be purely coincidence but I've had a spike in my T today. Cheers, Steve

Cheers Dave, I don't think it can do any harm, I'm guessing my spike is just down to being back to commuting and a rubbish nights sleep :-(

Yep, getting up at 5.40 when I've not slept welll can be exhausting. Plus the commute and racket on the tube...no wonder I'm stressed! Steve

Hi steve, i tried ginko for a while and it did appear to help with reducing my T but then I stopped using it and tried again a few months later and it did nothing for it. Its one of those things that you have to persevere with before it starts taking effect and Im going to try it again and see what happens. As for sleep or lack of it. Its one of the most annoying aspects of Tinnitus, i had zopiclone to begin with but you can't use it more than once or twice a week so its not much help. Others take amitriptyline but I find since i brought the oasis sound machine from BTA and use concentrated cherry juice from holland and barrett, my sleeping pattern has improved. I too have to work and find it hard going at times and its hard for colleagues to understand that some days Im not feeling great because its not a physical illness they can see. But my clinical manager tries to accomodate me as much as she possibly can. Can you use a masking sound when you're on the train?

Keeping active and being busy seems to help as well though if you're tired, that isn't always what you want to do. I would speak to you're GP about sleeping problems as once you can get this sorted, you will find it easier to deal with the rest of it.

hi lesley, myT, is very loud all the time so i cant sleep either but my g.p. prescribed me zimovane7.5 mg with zopiclone m and i take them every night and have done for 3 years, without them i cant sleep ive tried all sorts and i have a sound machine too but myT. is so loud that i need the tabs, interestingly the brand i use is SANOFI from boots but i noticed that another brand from other chemists didnt work so well.i have noticed that sometimes even they dont work but its very occasionally. go back to your doc, and ask about them nothing worse than no sleepwhen i first gotT. i tried for 5 days and got none!!!!!!!!! i was a basket case

Hi drumcrew,

These days My T is not so bad that I can't sleep. I have moderate Tinnitus. For the most part, the sound generator and cherry juice are all I need. But on really bad days, i do wear my hearing aide with built in masker over night. I also find swimming a good therapy as it tires me out enough to help me sleep. Or having a few glasses of red wine on a friday night also does the trick....Lesley

Hi Lesley I bought cherry juice from H & B I found it not much help I only drank it on odd days not every night I also bought Cherry capsules again maybe it was, me but I only took them odd days not regularly so maybe it was not drinking Cherry juice nightly I got no benefit I do have a drink of low alcohol white Wine before bedtime which seems to help me sleep my GP prescribed me ametrpalyne but I found I got more headaches than usual so I stopped taking it . Yes, although I think there's an underestimation of how debilitating it can be....a bit like mental illness, there's no external physical symptoms so it's hard to understand if you're not on the receiving end of it 😖

hi steve, yes thats the problem with peoiple not understanding if you look ok you must be ok and also the severity of it how can you tell them how loud it is i dont know if its possible to measure it in a audiologists lab?

Hi Drumcraw, yeah, there was a lad in the office who had an ear infection and Tinnitus for a couple of weeks, which cleared up. But he was unable to function properly because of the distraction....if only he knew how hard it is to deal with it 24/7!

nobody knows like i know lol and everyone that has it, thats the prob. i think the B.T.A. helpline should have people who have T. to be able to understand porperly, or some medically qualified people to be able to help constructivly with people with T. probsm spellings good eh?

I had a couple of really bad tinnitus days at work earlier this week. It built up so that it felt like a wall of noise inside my head & my brain felt 'tense'. I couldn't concentrate properly and my eyes were a bit googly, so I was wondering if it might have been a tinnitus-induced migraine.
