Arthritis is the most ignored painful condition.sometimes I just want to die.I am on longtec, supposed to take 40mg.in morning and 40mg. at night.however I have to take the full 80mg.in morning just to get showered and dressed,do my shopping and a little house work.I self medicate at night with ibrofenjoint and back pain which helps me sleep a little.my GP says he cannot change my medication as it was prescribed by a consultant.l have to go back to consultant, get another MRI .I have had two back operations and have spinal stenosis.first one in 1981 when a sliver was taken from my hip bone and grafted onto my spine.it is that hip scar which is now excruciatingly painfull .my GP feels something more acute has happened there now.I have no option now only pay to see a consultant again in order to get adequate pain control.I am starting a CBT pain management programme. Will post results if anyone is interested

I am sorry to hear how much pain you are in. There is certainly less research going on into osteoarthritis than there should be. Probably because for many years it was thought to be just wear and tear brought on by old age. However they now realise that it starts long before the pain does, and the immune system is involved. But still, we are just told to live with the pain, almost as if it is our punishment for being active and getting old!

i hope the CBT helps, let us know.

Sorry to hear you feel that way I have got Osteoarthritis in my neck and it is crushing the nerve that runs down both arms. This very painful at times and I've learned some things if a non medical asks if you are alright say yes because they will feel sorry for you and you don't need reminding that your not alright. Try and keep yourself occupied all the time. these 2 ideas do work to some extent and I do hope the Pain Clinic can help you.

Oh how I agree with you, I would love to know how pain management goes for you. I went to one this month but due to a fall & broken bone I was discharged with a suggestion for rereferral when my bone is healed. I need different pain releif after years of moderate pain, so this is the new way to assess it I am told. It was great to see a doctor who actually listens to pain problems. Why do you have to pay to get pain relief? or have I misunderstood.? Or is it because you are not being prescribed a NHS reccommended drug.? Good luck with the pain management and hope you get good pain relief after paying for it.

I have a number of spinal issues amongst many other conditions. My partner has spinal stenosis and has had surgery to remove a disc recommended. I would be grateful for any info that may help. I hope things improve. My partner has also been offered pills by her gp. She is suffering a lot and a bit confused as to what to do.
