Hi Hyde

I am sorry to hear about your knee. How long are you in the cast for? Are you able to get a brace v cast? I ask this bc the brace will allow for some mild PT exercises and muscle atrophy won't be such a big deal. With a cast and complete immobilization this will make post cast life a little tricky.

Nutrition wise, just listen to your body. Balance is key, lean protein helps with healing/repair (amino acids). However, I stress balance. Protein, veggies, fruit and whole grain/starches(sweet pots/squash). Lots of water is also key. Hydration is always important, especially at this time to help overcome constipation from medication.

Do you have to have surgery?

Hope this helps and you feel better soon! Keep askin Qs :)

Hugs

Ash

I knocked my knee out 8 times and had 3 surgeries to fix the damage. Here's what I recommend...

Avoid twisting, over-extending, and overloading your knee. Many people kick their legs straight when they walk or run... don't do that, either. When you come down on that leg, make sure it's bent at least a little (don't lock your knees). This is a long-term consideration, as it may go out again (remember... mine did 8 times!)

As for food, your general healthy diet is great. If you're overweight, eating healthy and exercising (as you're able) to lose a few pounds will help, both in recovery and helping to keep it from happening again. If your knee feels unstable in the future, you can wrap it with an elastic bandage; add a soft sponge on the side of your kneecap on the side the dislocation occurred (so, if it slid to the outside, put it on the outside).

Hope this helps!
