Licodeine patches

Hi

My doctor prescribed plasters to put on my leg and thigh for 12 hours for the burning pain I am having. She could not point out exactly if burning is due to sciatica or to the short shingle rash episode I had on same side of sciatica. Do these patches work? The pain is quite unbearable!

Lidocaine Patch is a local anesthetic. It works by stopping nerves from transmitting painful impulses to the brain.

Good when you have had shingles

yes the patches do work,I suffer with peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) and I have burning sensation and pins and needles in my lower legs and feet,I put them on my calf muscles at night time as this is when my pains get more intense, its not a total cure, but its a dam site better than not using them,no side effects and easy to use,I could do with a long pair of socks to cover my lower legs,I still have alot of muscle spasms which is all associated with pn,and feels like I've got little fish swimming up and down my legs in my veins,so all nerve damage gives folk different sensations,so hopefully you'll get some sort of respite from your pains, good luck

I stopped with a bu trans patch. With nausea and an itching from the patch.

Might be different with another.

I have not find much relief from the patches so far. First day I felt the pain more and more. Today I have them on because the burning is during the day but if I move around I still feel the burning, if I lay down I don't feel it.

I suffer with shocking pain both Neuropathic(nerve) and Musculo-skeletal(bone, muscle, tendon)! Yes! I do have CRPS, among other conditions. I am in Australia where these patches are very expensive but my specialists have managed to get a special authority which allows me to access these from the hospital at a very reasonable rate! I have now finally begun to realise just how effective these patches can be in helping to reduce my pain levels. I even completely wrapped my worst 2 arthritic fingers totally in them and then taped these in place so they would not come off in the night! My doctors laughed when I said I had used them for Arthritic issues, UNTIL I mentioned that our fingers, along with our tongues have some of the most sensitive nerve pathways in our entire bodies! Seemed like a no-brainer to me who is very much a practical person who has always used my Common Sense!! Once I pointed this out, my medical team told me that they shall now suggest this use for these patches to others who suffer as much as I do! You certainly cannot lose by at least TRYING this form of pain relief. I wish you some blessed relief from such suffering. They are NOT a cure, but any relief is a huge bonus to me!
