So a shock diagnosis of colon cancer last year, surgery and chemo and I'm now doing c25k for a second time hoping that exercise can have some beneficial effect in keeping me healthy. Anyone else in this situation?

Not in your shoes but well done. I am sure that if you feel well enough and the medicals are happy with it, it can only do you good, not just the overall physical fitness but the endorphins will play an important part in your sustained recovery.

Wishing you the very best of luck.

🍏🤗Well done on tackling c25K ..after recovering from such a devastating diagnosis! Many years ago I was diagnosed with a stage 3 Breast cancer & had radical surgery chemo and drugs for 5 years. I was told after my recovery that I had osteoporosis diagnosed with a dexa scan. I had a wonderful physiotherapist who encouraged me to exercise. I wasn’t into running then but joined a walking group. I started running during lockdown and my dexa scan improved as did other things like blood pressure. I encourage you to keep running with the blessing of your medical team. Chi Running (slow running) was recommended as the best for me. Do let us know how you get on and we pray you go from strength to strength! 😊

I had breast cancer 6 years ago, I had surgery and rads, no chemo, but rads decked me...I found 5KYourWay soon after I finished my treatment, we meet at Parkrun on the last Saturday of each month. We are a support group for anyone affected by cancer, people in treatment, survivors, carers, friends and family etc. You can jog, run, walk, or cheer, everyone welcome. Have a look and see if there is one near you.

I've since been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and had most of my thyroid removed. 5KYourWay has been a great help...I've kept active through all of this, finished C25K more times that I can remember... I can vouch for that fact that exercise helps..

If I can help in any way, please don't hesitate... xx

That's great, I hope you like it. We all go for coffee afterwards in my group, I like that, and have made some good friends. We've had a Christmas dinner out the last couple of years, really nice people.

I think most groups the ambassadors tail walk, we have some lovely chats! The whole point is to do it YOUR way, some people run then come and join us for the last walking bit, some people marshall and cheer everyone on. Whatever you feel like really .Our ambassador is away next week so I'm leading the group.

Come back and let us know how it goes.

So I did it, well actually I walked about two thirds of it and was knackered afterwards but I will go again. Nice crowd of people, thanks for telling me about

Oh that's great, I'm so pleased, both to have helped and that you went and enjoyed it. You did it YOUR way, that's the whole point. We have some people that run then come back and walk with us, some that walk all the way, one chap walks one circuit (out of two) people bring dogs, it really is a lovely thing to do. You can help other people too with your experience.

Will you go again?

In same situation as you, finished chemo a couple of months ago, you inspired me to start getting fit enough to do parkrun again after a year of not running. Or doing much exercise apart from walking!

We can do it! I didn't start with running straightaway but did some body strengthening first. That felt good and gave me confidence to start c25k again. I'm thinking of joining a 5k your way group on Saturday, a chance to meet others in a similar situation. Hope you get on well, come back to me if you want to

Not cancer, but emergency surgery to remove part of dead small intestine. Left m very weak, unable to eat normally and drastic weight loss. 12 week convalesce and one year to start any training at all. Keep having blips. But back to cycling and walking now, which is a relief. Sending good wishes.

That sounds like quite an ordeal. It's amazing how the weight just drops. Good to hear you're getting back to your walking and cycling
