can someone please tell me why when I exercise for 3 hours I gain weight but days I exercise for an hour I lose. I work out for two and a half to three hours five days a week and have trouble getting the scale to go down. Last week I wasn’t feeling well but still at same amount of calories and only exercised for and hour a day and lost weight.

Exercise and weight gain
Is the hour more intense or different ? Are you drinking lots more liquid when you exercise 2-3 hours ? What do you do afterwards and are the hours different. I was told not to do intense workouts in the evening as they disturb sleep ? Do you eat differently after length of workout? Are you gaining muscle which gains weight ? Exercise triggers a range of chemicals which can alter both metabolism and metabolic processes and function. Age is also related. Complex but I have been told less can be more . If shorter times work then why do 3 hours ? I would be interested to read other comments on here too as some have detailed links to general information. I can only talk from my own personal experiences.
Thanks for your reply. I exercise at 7:30 or 8 Monday through Friday. I do an hour of cardio and the rest of the time is strength training. I eat before I exercise, usually an egg or two. I don’t eat when I get back until lunch time. That’s usually a protein and lots of veggies. I love to exercise. It’s fun so that’s why I do 3 hours. It’s my time out of the house. I don’t always gain but I can’t lose while exercising that long. I don’t understand why. If anyone can point me in the right direction I’d love it. Today I’ll do my cardio but for less time and I will strength train for less time too and see how that goes.
I read some old posts on this same subject. I think I’ve got a better understanding now. There are so many things to factor in. I exercised less today and will see if I need to cut calories a bit.
It's great that you enjoy it as that makes it sustainable.
Re weight loss, it's what you eat that will make the biggest difference. I don't know what your eating plan is but, as well as looking at how much (calories), maybe look at what you're eating. You're sorted about exercise so you could turn your attention that way. Have a look at the daily diary for starters.
And I've just noticed that moreless gave you the links to your previous posts, so that should get you on track with weight loss
Hi and thanks for your replies. I eat 1200 calories a day. I eat a balance of veggies, carbs, and fruit. I cut my calories to 950 and the scale went down. My doctor said I can do a 1000 calorie diet safely. It’s my nutritionist that wants me to eat atleast 1200 or more. I think l just need to make sure my calories are all good calories. Maybe I eat too much fruit. I do like to snack on it. I’ve looked over my past posts. I’ll read them again. Thank you.
