Sources and experiences of LDN

Hi again,

Just one more sourcing question - does anyone have any recommendations of UK sources of low dose naltrexone?

I would also love to hear of anyone's experiences of taking LDN. I have hashimoto's underactive thyroid and am also trying to conceive and have read that it could be v beneficial for both.

Thanks so much - I'd be lost without this place!

I've been on it for 4 months now, partly for Hashi's and also for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. UK sources are either Dickson's Chemist or Roseway Labs (I get mine from Dickson's - you book an LDN phone consultation, and a prescriber then prescribes the LDN for you, costs £50, and first few months' worth of LDN is £90). I got the sublingual drops but have now switched to sourcing naltrexone from an international pharmacy and making my own LDN suspension because of the cost, but it's definitely better to go through a prescriber, at least to begin with.

It's not had an impact on my antibodies/autoimmune attacks yet, but that can take quite a while. I have found a slight improvement in pain and recovery from exertion so will stick with it and see if it keeps improving. It's definitely a long game - most don't seem to see an effect on how they feel for a couple of months at least once on the full dose, and it takes a while to titrate up. I think I saw somewhere that around 1/3 find a lot of improvement, 1/3 see a small or no change, and 1/3 experience worsening symptoms or difficult side effects. Side effects I think can be things like nausea and headaches when you change dose, and some who take it before bed find it disrupts their sleep a lot. My sleep was already bad, so I take mine in the morning, and that gets around it.

It can aggravate gut problems, which is where sublingual drops are much better. Some do find that it raises their thyroid levels and so they need to lower their T4/T3 doses - I've not found this for myself, but they do ask you to keep an eye on your bloods.

Thank you for this - this is so useful. I think I will start off with Roseway Labs (and they can advise about T3 or NDT as well) and then look into sourcing it privately to minimise costs. Would you mind sending me a PM with how you go about it with your international pharmacy and making your own suspension? Sounds v complicated but would be worth it if it's cheaper. But I agree, best of starting off with a prescriber.

Thank you!

LDN has reduced my hashimotos TPO antibodies from 280 to 140 in one year. I use dicksons chemist in Glasgow by virtual appointment x
