Thyroid and Amlodipine

After being told I have a blood problem, and raised blood pressure, the GP put me on Amlodipine. I cannot find any reference to contra indications, but would like anyone who is on this to give me feedback. I know it is a calcium channel blocker, which may help my Raynaud's apparently, and I am sure I read somewhere that I may have to up my dose slightly.

Blood tests from last week:-

TSH 0.04 (0.27-4.20)

T4 14.3 (11.00-25)

T3 5.6 (3.10-6.60)

Yes, they tested the T3! I have been having ongoing "discussions" with the labs, so maybe my name comes up with a siren and flashing lights!

They did not test iron or ferritin, or Vit D, but the rest of the blood looks OK. I asked it they could add Cortisol to the test but the nurse refused. She looked shocked that someone would ask!

I can see I could go up a smidge with my NDT, but would be grateful if anyone else on Amlodipine could tell me if it effected their thyroid in any way.

Thanks.

I took Amlodipine for 2 or 3 years and it didn't affect my results. I used to take mine at bedtime (in my bedside cabinet so took it when I got into bed) and always take my thyroid meds about 5am so well away from each other.

It might be an idea to retest after being on Amlodipine for a couple of months to see if it makes any difference and whether your thyroid meds need adjusting, but for now make sure you take them well away from each other.

If you have High BP Try having beetroot and the juice reg it lowers BP

Thanks for that tip. I am afraid school dinners put me off beetroot for life, but I will give it a go. Any veg that takes a year to grow and a year to cook is not one I grow!
