Graves’ disease - dietary question

Just had the Graves diagnosis confirmed with positive TSI antibodies and started 5mg carbimazole a little while ago .

I’ve read iodine low diet can help - so no seafood / diary / eggs . I’ve also read no gluten can help . I’ve been gluten free for 3 weeks .

Just wondering if I can now eat Soy as I’m no longer hypothyroid / on thyroxine ?

Any other dietary tips welcome please ?

I would avoid soy if I were you.

I’ve been GF for couple of years & it has really benefited me. However when I tried eliminating other foods at same time, it was confusing to work out additional benefits. As such, only eliminate one food group at once and monitor the impact after 2-3 months. I was eager got a positive impact in my health, so understand how you can want to ‘try everything’. Do pay attention to key vitamins (ferritin, folate, Vit D) and test before you supplement. I only felt better when key vitamins were high in range (alongside optimal thyroid medication and being GF).

Thanks for answering. I’m trying to work out how to help myself. I’ve only been on carbimazole since 19th Feb,, so not sure it’s had an effect yet . Think I need to buy a Graves cookbook and start slowly making changes. Thanks for your advice . Is milk really that bad?

My dilemma today was whether to have a coffee at work with cows milk or soy !! And whether having small amount of milk will matter.

Well I’ve tried going dairy free for 3 months & really didn’t see huge benefits, so have reintroduced it. But I’m definitely sticking to GF as I have zero tummy issues now. I have cereal with almond milk, as I prefer the taste.
