What is this supplement? It may contain thyroid hormones.Interesting that you feel better but but be wary. I felt much better on a homeopathic remedy but after stopping my thyroid hormones became very ill after a few months.

Lack of thyroid hormones is the problem. Other remedies may or may not help. but nothing can replace them. It can also be dangerous if you are hypo and the herbal remedy contains iodine when you don't need it.

Hello

The supplement is called Thyroid Formula by Nature's Wonderland vegetarian herbal supplement.

What exactly is the supplement?

If you are hypothyroid (not enough thyroid hormone) you HAVE to have thyroid hormones. What pills did doctor give you, and what dose? Was it Levothyroxine?

Have you had any blood tests lately? Can you give us the results and reference ranges (usually in brackets after the result). That will help advise you.

If the herbal pills helped it is likely that you also had a vitamin or mineral deficiency that they helped - likely caused by low thyroid.

Iron (ferritin), folate, vitamins D3 and B12 need testing and supplemented if they are low. These are the main ones likely to be affected by lack of thyroid hormone.

Do you have any other symptoms?

Hello

The supplement is called Thyroid Formula by Nature's Wonderland vegetarian herbal supplement. The medication prescribe by the doctor was Levothyroxine. This was my levels on 9/2018 --TSH4.0600.450-4.500uIU/mLFinal01

T4,FREE(DIRECT)1.070.82-1.77ng/dLFinal01...

My dosage Levothyroxine 100 . I will not know my numbers again until 9/2019. That's when I can give an update. I also started Bladderwack herbal as well. I do not have any other symptoms that I am aware of. That was the only pill I was taken . Since being on the meds for 6 years I have gained 30 lbs. So that is why I looked for an alternative. Thanks

I see from the storefront the supplement provides a lot of iodine but no hormone per se. If you’ve been taking 100 mcg LT4, and had those symptoms that have gone away since stopping, it’s possible you could have been over treated, or we’re converting well, and cutting back has helped, but you’re quickly approaching a metabolic cliff and it won’t be pleasant and it won’t be good for your body. And ultimately you descend into a coma and die from hormone starvation.

Try cutting the tablets of levothyroxine in half.

Do not stop all together. We need you alive.

Hello

The dosage went up last year. When I stop taking for the entire year. I was on 50 until last year. Let me share my story. Got off the meds for a year. I was exercising and eating healthy with no meds. I went back for my exam and my numbers balanced enough to stay at 50. I tried the same thing the next year and they were off so that's why it increased. I still was gaining weight and having the soreness in my feet and knees. So Now I'm trying the herbal pills. I have more energy. I'm able to exercise without any discomfort. If my numbers is out of whack in September then I need to do something else. Thanks for responding and yes I want to live but not with pain.

Rocky. Thyroid care is this country is appauling and levo does not suit everyone. There are multiple reasons why it was not helping you that due to lack of education and training your GP is unlikely to be aware of. Here comes a list. It may not have been working due to

low iron

low Vitamin D

Low B12

Low folate

being taken with the wrong foods

You not being able to convert the T4 inactive hormone within it to the active hormone T3

Adrenal problems

taking too much

taking too little

thyroid resistance meaning that you need very high dose

taking antiacid meds that can prevent absorption.

I think that is it.

You need to initially go back to your GP or pay privately to have your TSH, T4 and T3 taken as well as your Vitamin D, folate, ferretin and B12. You are legally intitiled to a copy of your results that you can then post back on here so we can advise and for goodness sake do not accept a doctors opinion that your bloods are normal. It might take a few months to get you well but we can help you get there. If you are gaining weight you also need to avoid strenuous excersie it will lower you active thyroid hormones even more as will dieting. Gentle walks, meditation, leasurely swims. lots of rest, avoid caffine, refined sugar and if your have hashis gluten. Eat well, avoid getting too hungry especilally if you have low blood sugar episodes.Keep us updated.

HARRIS419 , PLEASE STOP THOSE PILLS AND GET YOUR IODINE LEVELS CHECKED!!! THIS IS URGENT!!!! :-O :-O :-O

Seaweed (such as bladder wrack) contain iodine, and unless you are deficient in iodine it is likely to damage your thyroid gland not help it.

Too much iodine is probably more harmful to your thyroid gland than too little. Apparently they used to use iodine pills for people who were hyperthyroid (too much thyroid hormone) to suppress the thyroid production)!

You may feel better now, but you are likely to end up far worse in several month's time, or sooner - unless you live in an area where there isn't enough natural iodine.

As someone said, we want you alive!!!

What you're taking is just another awful multi-vitamin. It isn't going to help your thyroid. You should always be wary of anything that calls itself 'support', because that is a euphemism for 'stimulate', and the last thing you want to do to a sick gland is stimulate it.

Others have talked about the dangers of iodine. But, I would just add that, to begin with, iodine stimulates the thyroid to make more hormone. But, it doesn't last. It will eventually hasten the demise of your thyroid.

This multi also contains copper. The problem with that is that hypos are usually high in copper and low in zinc, so adding more copper isn't a good idea, it can make you ill. You really ought to get that tested before taking any.

And, it contains Ashwagandha. Are you aware that Ashwagandha could lower your cortisol? Do you need your cortisol to be lowered?

I'm sorry to say this, and I apologise, but I really don't think you know enough about all this to be messing around with your health in this way. You are playing a very dangerous game.

Not what you're looking for?
