I had my gallbladder removed over 43 years ago, and I'm certain it has a lot to answer for. I was fine for about 30 years then this IBS started, and I also get symptoms which I think is due to bile acid. I don't get bile acid sickness but do get nausea at times and during a flare up of IBS, I can be on the toilet 6 or 7 times in one day. I make sure I drink plenty of water, which I due everyday regardless, but on those days I drink more. I do my best to eat healthily, avoiding processed foods as much as possible and it's crucial to stick to a low fat diet. I've lost weight and it scares me to death wondering what I have to look forward to. The older I get the worse things seem to get.
I used to be like that. Had sehcat scan and bam confirmed so I take Colesevelam tablets which are bile binders. Ask for medication. I only go to the toilet once a day now, no sickness etc. best thing ever. Been on them about 7 years.
Thank you so much for your response, it is greatly appreciated.
Can you please advise how many Colesevelam tablets you take a day? Also, do you suffer from constipation as a side effect on these tablets?
I currently have to take 2 Laxido sachets for constipation but unsure if it is these tablets or the 2 Amitriptyline and 1 Omeprazole, I take daily for IBS which was diagnosed 12 years.
I take 4 in one dose. The instructions will say take multiple times a day with food, that is their licensed use of reducing cholesterol. For Bam we use off licence and are best taken on an empty stomach. I rarely get constipated. I used to take 5 and was finding I was getting a little, so I dropped to 4 which seems to work for me. Providing I drink plenty of water I'm fine. As I dont drink anything else and luckily love water - I drink 2-3 litres a day. If I'm having a bad time or feel a bit dodgy I take loperamide as well. Been on them about 7 years now, been having diarrohea problems since my mid 20s and I'm mid 50s now.
