Individual patterns seem to be all over the board with IBS. They can also change pretty randomly over time for each individual as well.
One thing you mentioned, though, got me thinking. I've had IBS my entire, but only recently developed diverticulitis. The latter seems to have left me with a permanent condition of your dry, painful lumps (type 1 on the Bristol chart, by the way). Never had that previously.
What I hear constantly from my docs is lots of fluid - like up to 8 glasses of water a day. Not totally sure that's helping though. I've got an appointment with my surgeon & gastroenterologist pretty soon, so will share what I hear.
Forgot to mention that I've been trying to change from non-soluble fiber to soluble. I eat a lot of fiber, but am just learning that the soluble type is better
DV is probably quite common in your 50s . Increase fluid maybe a pint of water before bed. Also increase fibre
You mentioned that you do long distance driving. Sitting for long periods of time will cause hard impacted stools, try getting as much excercise as you can between your driving stints
I can have the same and have found I need to drink more water, I have to avoid caffeine as it dehydrates me to much, also try and get more green veg in diet if possible but not to much as they can cause diarrhoea, it’s a juggling game but we don’t have a choice do we.
I am exactly the same. My ibs condition has caused me to stop working. I have the same issues. Normal bowel movements to loose thin stools. A few times every odd day. Some days my stool is just OK. I suffer from anxiety through having ibs. Now the medication I am on is making me worse . I have had every blood test available qfit tests all normal. I am still constantly worried and I suffer from acid reflux. Does anybody feel sick before or after going to loo. ?
