Hi Everyone. I came across this podcast this morning and thought that it might be of interest. It does advocate a plant based diet, (which I am still on the fence about) but it does bring up some interesting points about Low FODMAP which might ring true to anyone else on here who struggled with it and ultimately saw no improvement while on it.
Thanks for the link Fencinggirl I listened to this today. Thought her views of FODMAP were interesting and did ring true - I had a lot of success with it initially but have struggled for months with the reintroduction phase and it’s definitely not 100% effective for me. The risk of vitamin deficiencies isn’t great either so maybe it’s time for yet another diet strategy. I’ve been moving more towards plant-based, so may try to reduce meat even more and start pickling everything. Since we have all this time on our hands now... what did you think?
Definitely worth a try. I'm trialling plant based myself, although I am still a little sceptical as I have seen quite a few posts by vegans struggling with IBS so I'm not really sure how effective it will be (granted, vegan isn't exactly the same as plant based so maybe that's why?). Anyway, let me know how you get on with pickling and whether it makes things easier to digest. Good luck!
Instead of going strictly plant based, have you tried doing a low meat type diet. Like having a small portion of meat or even a one day meat portion daily diet. The thing with eating a strictly plant based diet is some people get B12 deficiency. I myself only eat a moderate of meat everyday and one day a week just do strict plant based meals. So I get the benefits of both worlds. I also try for the most part stay away from red meats. I mainly just do chicken, turkey and fish and sometimes but rarely pork or lamb. It’s worked so far for me but I know everyone is different just a thought. I also supplement with a multivitamin.
Should have been clearer, I'm not going completely plant based, I'm still having meat, but only once a week.
You make a good point about B12 deficiency, which is something that they don't address on the podcast (since a lot of people with IBS suffer from B12 deficiency anyway it would have been helpful if they had addressed it).
