Ablation or Medication
I'm currently under a Consultant Cardiologist who when I had my initial appointment placed me on
Amiodarone
. My medication has been reduced and other than the odd slip back into AF I appear to be responding to it well.

Amiodarone & catheter ablation
Can anyone tell me whether they had to stop taking
Amiodarone
some time before their ablation & if so was it an abrupt stop or did they keep taking it right up to the event please!

New-onset atrial fibrillation is a predictor of subsequent hyperthyroidism
Risk of hyperthyroidism was analysed by Poisson regression models adjusted for important confounders such as
amiodarone
treatment. Non-AF individuals from the general population served as reference.

How long have you been out of AF?
I'm aware that
Amiodarone
stays in your system for quite a while, so I guess it will still be contributing to controlling my heart rate. I've pretty much gone back to leading my life as I did prior to finding out I had AF.

On Dabigatran now awaiting a minor operation.
Whilst taking Dabigatran and on the waiting list for a minor facial op (benign skin cancer) - could this be a problem with
Amiodarone
( must not be in the sun for too long - can affect the skin)? So how long should I be off Dabigatran prior to this proceedure?

Getting blood test results.
Of course the answer was no so I didn't bother pursuing it and have been successfully self treating since but hubby has
Amiodarone
induced hypothyroidism and a mechanical heart valve so I don't want to be responsible for killing him off myself but will let our GPs do it for me.

My AF Journey so far.......
I called the Doc’s who suggested I increase my
Amiodarone
to 400MG for three days, then back to 200MG until I saw him a week later. Approx 6 days later I was back out of AF and have been now for the past 3 weeks.
