Hello everyone, I am very interested in learning more about how to help patients and survivors of breast cancer. My mother had cancer and I lost my spouse to cancer, and have many friends who are recent survivors of breast cancer or are having treatment now, including for the very tough triple negative diagnosis. I am a health communication researcher requesting your help for a project to collect breast cancer patients’ and survivors’ stories of social support. The American Cancer Society's Cancer Survivors Network is not sponsoring this research, but has reviewed my request and credentials and kindly allowed me to post my survey on the ACS's Cancer Survivors Network research announcements site. The administrator of that department also suggested I post my request here and on two other online support sites sponsored by the same organization. The link to the full explanation of the study, which includes the link to very short open-ended survey (totally anonymous) is:

You may have to cut and paste this URL to your browser if the link is not live here. Thank you so much for considering this request. All my positive thoughts to everyone. Please do not bother, of course, if you are unable to spend the time and energy for this. I understand fully. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rose

I am so terribly sorry and sad to hear this. My husband's first diagnosis of cancer was at stage 4. Heart breaking for you and your loved ones. Keeping you in my thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to write, especially considering all you have on your mind. Rose
(The full study, if you click, indicates it is for patients and survivors, but I shortened the title here, unfortunately.)
If we are alive, we are survivors🤣. I think you would be a good one to fill this out. I am sure you have some stories about good and bad examples of support you got...or didn’t get! Elaine
Perhaps you feel differently to me...I don’t think of being a survivor at all as my life is governed by this disease...I do try to live a normal life and lucky to still be able to do activities..however I’m realistic and know one day I won’t be able to do so
I’m sorry you are not having a good day but you have every reason to feel that way. Just remember that you were feeling good before your scan even though you had the liver mets even then. You are a fighter and a survivor in my book. Go give Bugsy a hug and visualize all the hugs our tribe is sending. Elaine
Hello Rose,
I agree with Barb. This site is for metastatic breast cancer patients. You might be better off posting on a different site where patients are stages 1-3.
I appreciate your note. Forgive me, as I don't think I characterized this properly, as it is for all folks who experienced support at any time during illness. Keeping everyone here in my thoughts.
I'm not sure it matters what stage you're in. Support is support and a cancer diagnosis is just that. Yes, some are more severe (I'm stage IV as well). So, I completed your survey and I hope it helps you. All the best.
Lynn, Thank you so much for understanding the purpose of the survey and also for completing it. I wish you all the best as you deal with this terrible disease. Thank you for taking the time. Sincerely, Rose
I don't know about a survey question, I could write a book about the support I've received and times where it's been severely lacking! Both have been amazing but in different ways. Good luck with your research!
Julie, I can only imagine! I hope you can find the time to complete the survey. It is pretty short and will help a lot. Thanks so much for your note and I hope that your support moving forward is all helpful! Sincerely, Rose
