I don’t understand why the doctor gave her 5 years with Stage 3 breast cancer?

She got lumpectomy without taking chemo in some other hospital... now i am showing in a good cancer center, so theie doctor said due to that reason... cancer spread to much distance... now they are giving chemotherapy

I am at a cancer center. 20 months ago I had lumpectomy and a choice to do chemo. My oncotype test showed a 15% chance of recurrence without chemo or 13% with it. We opted for radiation and tamoxifen. I am now stage 4 and know that 10 years+ is achievable.

It’s important to have a great center plus that feeling in the gut that says “I agree with this approach “.

Not doing chemo doesn’t necessarily put someone at higher risk. Every cancer and response is different.

I agree I was stage 2 and here I’m 18 now 19 years later. I just had lumpectomy and radiation. And went on with my life till last summer. So 5 years?? My oncologist would never put a time table on me. Everyone is different but with all the new drugs and ones coming out.

no doctor knows...no one knows how long someone can live. people live with stage 4 for years and years and years...and new treatments all the time. maybe get a second opinion?

Stage 3 is curable so not sure why the Dr is saying 5 years. Even at stage 3 your have a good chance of much longer. That being said there will always be side effects. But they vary so much from person to person that it's hard to say what she will experience.

Actually, she was diagnosed with recurrent breast cancer after lumpectomy. Cancer has spread till bone marrow.. i think that the reason he gave 5 yrs time.

Do you think that she is under stress and could have given you the wrong stage of cancer?

Please get her to one of the best cancer centers in the world. You could save her life. You can google them. One of them that should be on the list for you to review is MD Anderson. Make sure the cancer center you choose accepts her health insurance. If they do not, many of the oncologists also work at charity hospitals.

Treatment is so expensive when someone does not have good health insurance. I wish I was rich so I could help releive the financial stress that so many people have. I’m so grateful that I have really good health insurance right now. Praying for you.

I don’t understand why the dr is discussing life expectancy at all. It’s possible to cure and/or prolong care at stage 3. There are people w stage 4 at 15 years. I’d get a second opinion. Go to an experienced cancer center.

When you find a top doctor at a top cancer center I’d let the doctor know what aryuvedic treatment she is taking. Do you live near a major city?

Hi! I also have stage. 4 with Mets to the bones...Dx July ‘16...I’m doing very well right now on Peejetta Herceptin Zometa...to answer your original question, yes I take supplements and essential oils. U can take most natural stuff without it bothering the chemo. I take Frankincense, magnesium spray, organic greens powder certified by Chipsa in Mexico(leading cancer hospital in North America). My numbers looked really good last month after I started taking it. I use lavender in the infuser...I also exercise a lot at the YMCA....lots of swimming laps and a trainer that expects us to do 100 push ups and sit ups! Lol I’m only 47 so as long as I can do it I will. 😀

Blessings and prayers to u and your mom!

Regarding naturopathic meds during chemo, please have her go over every one of them with her doctor who is perscribing the chemo. I have one of the best oncologists in world and, for the most part, he doesn't care. He just mentions that the science doesn't show any difference in the outcome, but it won't hurt me -- just don't go broke paying for it! Some ayurvedic meds may interact, so just go over them with your oncologist to make sure.

Good advice above about ayervedic meds. And excersise. I’m sorry your mother-in-law is struggling with the doctor’s prognosis. Maybe he thought he was being optimistic! Many of the older cancer studies stopped gathering statistics on survival at 5 years. I had stage IIB in 1994 and a recurrence in 2005 and now stage IV in 2016. None of my doctors talked about life expectancy. Now it’s just a question of how long a particular medicine will work before we switch to another. Are you in India? i’m familiar with Mazumdar-Shaw cancer hospital in Bangalore. My oncologist is Indian. I’ll ask her about Ayurvedic meds this week.

Hello warriors, and, or sisters in the fight to iradicate this disease The only doctor that can

tell you whether you can take chemotherapy drugs, and natural supplements/modalities at

the same time without adverse effects, is an Integrative Doctor, who has been

trained/studied in both traditional medicine, and natural methods/modalities. Remember

also there are so many new cancer fighting drugs coming out that have to be studied as to

whether they interact well with natural supplements. A lot of traditional medical doctors,

don't make the time to keep up to date on their traditional medical training. So how many

do you think would actually make the time to study non traditional modalities, and become

Integrative doctors. Very few. If patients started taking lower cost natural supplements

prescribed by/given by Integrative Doctors, it would be less profitable for the pharmaceutical

companies, and also less profitable for medical doctors. So yes it may be harder to find an

Integrative Doctor, but you will have to take the time and make the effort to find one, if this

is important to you, and, or your loved one(s.) How does my one year to live in this physical

body turn into 10 years with NED No Evidence of Disease. May Dr/ God bless us all, and bring

to light a forth coming cure for this disease ,that will be found in Gods green earth Amen.

i know it is easier said than done sometimes Warriors, but fight for your life so that you can

have more days, months, and years with your loved ones Praise, and prayer works for me

XoXoXoX .

My oncologist in Southern California (who is Indian) says that the danger in Ayurvedic medicine is that it tends to be high in heavy metals, which can interfere in the treatment, even while it makes the patient feel better. So she recommends against it. She might want to wait til the chemotherapy is over. How is your mother in law doing?

Not what you're looking for?
