Hi everyone, well I’m about to do what I swore I never would again - take Pregabalin. ‘‘Twas me too who recently had kind replies to my query about dose of Gabapentin. I was convinced Pregabalin, taken for several years from around 2007/8 had made me worse in the long run & anyway had stopped working, but am getting even worse ( never taken a DA, am taking Ferrous bisglycinate, in UK, last ferritin 88 ), RLS still present at 8am now, so have discussed with GP & going to retry Pregabalin.
1st time I took it it worked straight away though I’ve read that for many of you it takes some time. GP has given me 25mg tabs so I can tinker around with dose.
So I’d be very grateful to hear anyone’s dose regime, how long took to work etc. I think O read that splitting it into early evening & pre bedtime was most effective. Last time I took once pre bed but it did become ineffective. Not taken since 2017 so hopefully will get some benefit again.
Hello Alison7 I am sorry to hear your RLS is giving so much trouble and you are going to try pregabalin again. I know this drug is suggested quite a bit on this site and many seem to find it really helpful. I cannot take it because of bad side effects. I don’t know if you suffer any other ailments or what age you are but I have wet macular degeneration for which I get eye injections. Pregabalin can affect the sight and indeed a recent contributor here has lost her peripheral vision thought due to pregabalin.
Obviously many can take this drug without major problems and the advice often given is to persevere and side effects will ease. However if sight is affected this is sometimes permanent and I feel people should be more aware of this.
I hope your treatment goes well and you have no trouble with it.
I have recently been perscribed Pregabalin. Started on the very lowest dose as I am very sensative to any medication. Have had various side effects as I upped the dose as instructed.
Went back to GP and was told to increase more slowly but when I raised the point that if I was having alot of side effects and the drug was not working, was there any point in taking it.
Again was told that the side effects would get less but had to persevere until I reach 150mg twice a day to get any relief.
Not sure I agree with that but will try to carry on as long as possible.
Have taken Gabapentin to the highest dose with major side effects but no relief so not sure Pregabalin would work any better.
Because I suffered a skin reaction the 3mg Rotigotine Neupro patches I started using, because the tablets didn't last long enough, I started taking Pregabalin starting at 25mg per day and slowly cutting back the patches. After 3 weeks I have now reached 150mg per day with no patches, but the side effects, disorientation, blurred vision etc, are forcing me to give them up and go back to the Rotigotine tablets and put up with their short life. Be very careful with increasing the Pregabalin dose, the side effects can be insidious and dangerous.
I’ve been on pregabalin for about 18 mths. I take 150mg at about 8pm. I started on 50mg and titrated up to 150mg in about a week.
I have a few slight balance issues if I get up in the night and I’m also prescribed drops as my eyes are quite dry. Any weight gain soon stabilised. I would say I get about 80% coverage. As with all drugs you have to give them time before any side effects settle down.
After the absolute nightmare of ropinorole augmentation and then tramadol becoming ineffective, I feel for over the past year I have got my life back and it’s good.
