Can I ask what is the symbolism with the hummingbird? Mom loves birds and flowers. I had a piece started for her (she is still here, but wanted her to see it) with hydrangeas (her fave) but she also ironically loves hummingbirds. We had 3 feeders outside on our back porch and she would be so tickled when she saw one!
As you can see from eastern cedar’s reply, PSP can be confirmed with an mri that shows the brain stem in the shape of a humming bird. So ironically this lovely little bird has become the symbol of this awful disease. If you google it, you will see more information and in this site there are lots of posts with hummingbird stories. One of Mike and my favorite spots to go to here in Silicon Valley is a hill top called mount Umunhum which means hummingbird in the Native American language.
The brain scans of people with PSP often show a distinctive area of damage that is shaped like a hummingbird.
The day my sweetheart died the aide, who did not know about the link, brought syrup and found my old feeder, filled it and hung it up while I was tending him. An hour later, first sighting that year, a hummingbird was at my window. It was a curious comfort.
