6 month old baby Covid

Hi all, unfortunately I tested positive for Covid on Christmas Eve, and today my baby 6 months old has also tested positive. He’s got a slight temperature 37.7 and just sleeping on our laps constantly, he’s having little bits of milk here and there but just sleeping mainly. I’m worried - any advice? Does it pass quite quickly in babies? Am trying to make sure he’s staying hydrated with bottles as and when he’s awake and his nappies are still wet. But he’s just really lethargic and asleep a lot. I guess that’s good as it means his body is resting to fight the virus! Hubbie is being fab and looking after him as I’m in bed feeling rough myself! 😭

hi! Sorry you’re feeling rough - we had it last week and it was really rubbish. Our daughter (6 months) caught it too and was lethargic for a day or two and then bounced back. She’s still really snotty but happy enough!

Hey! Thanks reassuring to hear phew! I’m feeling really sorry for myself as was his first Christmas and it got totally ruined. I know things can be worse but after years of infertility I feel robbed of that special day. I also feel really emotional since I’ve had Covid it’s definitely made me feel a bit blue! And tips for a quick recovery for adults and babies? I had it one before about 18 months ago but I’m much worse this time! X

It’s really rubbish isn’t it 😞 if it helps I found the day slightly underwhelming - it was all very overstimulating for her and she spent the day cluster feeding like a newborn! I’m looking forward to next year when she’s more aware.

Tips - I drank lots and lots of fresh lemon & ginger tea. Here’s a good recipe I recommend (but I take out the garlic): chefbai.kitchen/blog/coldcure

Personally I do this with every cold and it always helps. Plus lots of cold and flu, and face over bowl of hot water with tea tree oil and eucalyptus.

For baby: sinus spray (frida) and snot sucker to clear airways / calpol plug in overnight (v much recommend) / pop them in bathroom with you for steamy shower that really works too loosen mucus too / half an onion by bed weirdly stops their cough too

Get well soon!

Also i was freaking out on her worse day and we did call 111 cus she was coughing loads, lethargic and vomiting. They basically said if temp goes over 40 and doesn’t reduce with calpol then seek assistance otherwise monitor. I spent a few hrs skin to skin and then put her down and by the next morning she was much better x

That’s good to know too, I’ll keep checking his temperature to make sure it doesn’t go about 40, it’s about 37.7 /38 with Calpol

Thank you this is all very helpful and made me not feel so panicked! I’ll try that tea for sure. I’ve got some Calpol patches so I’ll put that on a hanky in his room. The rapid breathing is horrible, I know it’s their body fighting the virus but I feel like he’s taking more frequent breathes? X

i found skin to skin helped with the temp and breathing. Though saying that hers wasn’t too bad so def keep an eye on it and if you’re worried at all then def seek further assistance. She was still alert when awake so i was less concerned?

We had it when little one was 7mo. He had a marginal temp but mostly asymptomatic otherwise (didn’t know he had it, he was patient zero). My husband works in paediatrics and their experience is young kids get off very lightly with it, it’s the older ones (8/9yo) get more severe disease. He wasn’t remotely worried about LO, who was totally better in 2d. He on the other hand felt dreadful! I’m sorry your first Christmas was ruined. Hope you’re all better soon! Xx

yeah my baby caught it from me around 8 weeks old. We didn’t know I had it or what it was so ended up in A&E as she also was super lethargic and sleeping loads but yep that’s just them sleeping it off. Other than that she was fine. Babies don’t generally suffer covid badly at all. Hope you get well soon
