my 20 year old daughter is about 37 weeks. Suddenly they are worried about too much amniotic fluid. The baby is getting big, about 7 and a half pounds. Just so you know, she was 9 and a half and her brother 9lbs 3. He was my second, she was my last baby. Their older brother- different father, and my first, was 8.5 lbs. I make big babies. And her dad was a 10 lb baby. There hasn’t been any real issues with her. They’ve made her take several diabetes tests. I am diabetic. And so is her dad, and my mom. She’s was overweight when she got pregnant. (5’3” 180). But was not diabetic at the time. Her tests have all been ok. But this week he was concerned because baby is getting big, which I expected, but also has more fluid. They haven’t looked at that till now. But it was like 27 when the range is around 24. Now I’m worried. Can anyone tell me anything about this?

first child - possible complications
Hi Noma,
It's called Polyhydramnios when there is extra fluid. I had it with my last 2 babies along with gestational diabetes. The doctors told me both babies would be big, with one predicting baby could reach over 10lbs, but they were not that big at all, 8lbs 2 and 8lbs. I was 9lb 5 when I was born. Sometimes there are no reasons for the extra fluid, baby will be checked as soon as he/she is born by a paediatrician.
I had to have a c-section with both my youngest sons as I have other health problems as well.
Both my 2 youngest were born healthy with no health problems. I would try not to worry too much, I know easier said than done, but just remember you will be holding a little bundle of joy in the next few weeks that will bring you all joy and happiness.
Hi,
I had this with both of my full term pregnancies. With my son it had mainly resolved by birth and the same with my youngest. I was retested for diabetes both times but didn’t have it. It can also be a sign of a large baby - mine were 9lb 12oz and 8lb 11oz (she was born early so by gestational age was also large). My dr said it’s most often nothing to worry about but that’s easier said than done! Hopefully she’ll get extra monitoring and they’ll keep a close eye on things.

Hello, she has only few weeks to go, so wouldn't worry too much. Maybe a thing to consider for future pregnancies would be not to take pregnancy multivitamins (apart of folic acid) as they result in "giant" babies.
