I've read that fennel is good too, they say "Chewing the seeds regularly also helps the liver to metabolize sugars and fats". I've also read it can aid the production of bile too. It doesn't just have to be chewing the seeds though, a fennel tea is good, and use in recipes.

I eat most of these foods but I thought that grapefruit was now a no no, I don't eat the beets or drink green tea though as I dislike them.

Interesting about the grapefruit. Since having PBC I crave grapefruit but when I read that people with liver disease shouldnt eat too much grapefruit I have limited myself to one occasionly!

Thanksfor all the comments. I am going to do a bit more research about grapefruit.

Me too except for grapefruit & hadn't heard of arugula but I googled it and it seems to be a type of Rocket which I love.

Well I certainly eat what is on that list...a lot!

Just one don't know what it is - aragula? Could that be mint? Oh just noticed, sorry Junolee filled me in there, I occasionally buy mixed salad a rocket is in it so do have that!

Well I do occasionally buy and juice grapefruit and I've NOT heard it is a no-no either.

I don't go OTT with it BUT I think you might find for the queries on here though if you want to check it out first I'd be interested in finding out what info anyone got on this fruit that as far as I know urso has no restrictions regards something like grapefruit. There are certain drugs that people are on that grapefruit is said to best avoid.

Given apparently grapefruit does something to the absorption of certain drugs in the system and it has been said that perhaps it increases the dosage due to the then slow release of the drug then could be possible some patients are then taking in more of their drug, well in the case of urso with PBC it is said overdose by accident is probably of no significance and it wouldn't harm us with PBC then surely in my mind that cannot be a bad thing? That's how I see it and I'll stick to that fact.

I know anyone on statins for eg are asked to avoid grapefruit but I'm not on them so I can't see a problem and I don't see perhaps a couple of grapefruit per wk or even fortnightly of some major issue.

Out of interest today my husband and I have been a good walk round Windermere clocking up 4 miles, part of it was walking to the top of Orrest Head there, been a great day for a brisk walk today. Popped in supermarket when we landed back in Windermere and I picked up a pack of washed and ready to eat pea shoots. Now I'd not heard of these but only 30 calories in the packet (15 as my husband and I shared!) and they were pretty delicious as we ate them on the go.

I too have just discovered pea shoots-eat them as a salad as every bit as tasty as lettuce.

Grapefruit is to be avoided if one is on certain prescription drugs. Check food/drug interactions with a local pharmacy, your doctor, or a food drug interaction websites. As I recall, certain heart meds and grapefruit are to be avoided. Hope this helps. I too have PCB along with an electrical heart problem. Unfortunately, my parents had heart disease and had to avoid all grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Mom craved grapefruit.

all are very healthy but not very filling, so suggestions please to accompany above foods

my diet also contains, brown rice, gluten free pasta, sweet potato, shirataki noodles, chicken, turkey burgers(my own), salmon, shrimp, cod. I don"t eat red meat. I buy gluten free bread by "UDI". I hope this helps. The only dairy I eat now is greek yogurt. A bowl with fresh berries really fills me up as mid day or evening snack. I hope this helps you. I have been limiting my calories to 1200 a day and have lost 24lbs since June. My diet is balanced, healthy, and tasty. I season using everything but salt. I hope this helps. judi
