MRI Update - Disease Reversing

It's been 6 months since my last MRI scan. I got the new MRI results today. The doctor says there is a lot less fat in the liver, so the Fatty Liver Disease is reversing. But, she says my liver looks like it has had inflammation for awhile, so stay away from heavy alcohol use. I've still got some healing to do. No signs of damage from PBC.

Back in February, all my blood work finally came back into normal range - liver enzymes, blood lipids, cholesterol, and Vitamin D. I'm glad I had the imaging to confirm that fatty liver disease is going away. I will go back for blood work again in Sept or October.

I have lost 15 lbs since I was diagnosed in October (7 months ago).

I don't really have any health concerns anymore. Everything has been resolved. I'll continue eating healthy and taking Ursodiol and Vitamin D. I'd like to lose a few more pounds. I just have to check in with my liver now and then to make sure its functioning well and there's no bile duct damage from PBC.

Hi. That is great news!!! What did you do to reverse all this? Did you take any supplements? Any special diet?

Hi Pea, If you click on my name Chynablue it takes you to my profile and you can read my posts there to follow my journey. I think the steps I took were 1) Diagnosis, 2) Education, 3) Ursodiol and Vitamin D, 4) Detox, Stress Reduction, and giving the body a break, 5) Plant based diet, 6) Adding back gentle exercise when fatigue improved, and now I'm at step 7) Monitoring.

Well done chynablue. Some great news and great work re weight and alcohol. It's a struggle but well worth the end result. Good luck.

Great news but how did you achieve it ? Did you change diet etc? Would love to know.

Hi Philip, If you click on my name Chynablue it takes you to my profile and you can read my posts there to follow my journey. I changed my diet to remove anything that could be considered toxic, like processed foods, sugar, alcohol, simple carbs, and anything that I felt bad or tired after eating it. I replaced these things with fresh fruits, veggies, lean protein in small amounts, and only the highest quality food I could get my hands on.

Well done Chynablue - we must all try and do what we can to improve our health. I think the type of food we eat and our weight is extremely important. I am now drinking a large glass of warm water with lemon squeezed in every morning and I notice my fingers are less puffy - a result!!

Keep up the good work. Best wishes. Diane

Thanks, Liver-bird! I do feel much better when I drink warm lemon water first thing in the morning. Now that I'm more healthy, I don't have a lot of puffiness. I used to be very puffy around the eyes every day. Now if I'm puffy I try to figure out what I did to cause it. Sometimes I convince myself that its ok to have a light beer or a small glass of wine with dinner - nope! puffy eyes in the morning.

If I eat at a restaurant that uses too much sodium, I get puffy from that too. One restaurant really surprised me. I ordered a healthy looking salad with chicken on it, but I investigated further and they have tons of sodium in the dressing, chicken, and toppings. I'm better off making it myself at home. Probably cheaper, too.

Chynablue~what a great message to read this morning! I know how elated you must have felt, and I'm so proud of the way you are taking charge of your health and turning things around. We'd love more details on what you are doing!

Thanks Jenny! Mostly just reading a bunch of research online, taking my meds, and eating a fresh plant based diet.

Wow, that's great news! Keep it up. I've given up the alcohol, but just can't see going to an all plant diet! I am inspired to eat better though!

Awesome! Oh, and to be fair, I don't eat all plants, I still eat chicken, lean pork, high quality steak, but in small portions and not every meal. Some days no meat at all. I just feel better that way. Sometimes I say, well, I feel like crap after the stuff I ate this weekend, so I'm going to do a 10 day plant based meal plan to get back to feeling better. Its a work in process.
