Hi, so a few nights ago I started to get restless legs at night time.. actually restless leg (left). I get a numbness in my leg and feel the need to move it. I’m also having bouts of impending doom. I’m currently on 25mg quetiapine and 30mg mirtazapine. Anybody got any experience of this?
Restless legs and anxiety attacks : Hi, so a... - Pain Concern
Restless legs and anxiety attacks
Both medications are triggers for RLS.
Thanks, I’ve been taking both meds for about 3 months and never had restless legs before a few days ago? Any reason why it’s come on now?
On the Restless Legs forum we advise keeping an intake diary, to try and determine any possible triggers. So - might you have changed your diet around that time? Or different medication?
Antihistamines and antidepressants are both major triggers.
Many foods have ingredients thatsy trigger RLS-- msg- think Chinese takeaways, most processed foods and my particular one-- rising agent - biscuits etc😥🥴
You could transfer this post to the Restless Legs forum if you want more advice!🥴😎
My sister has alot of problems with restless legs , she needs to go for a walk every evening or if can’t do that she goes up and downstairs about 10 times . It is horrible, sometimes a pillow under knees can help as well, best wishes.
Do you have thyroid problems? If not maybe you need to be tested because thyroid disease can cause anxiety.
Now you mention it, my thyroid area does seem swollen. I’ve been suffering with periods of anxiety and doom for the past year and didn’t know what was triggering it. I’ve always believe that it’s something mechanical not psychological
You need to have TSH, FT4, T3 FT3 (which no doctor does) and Antibodies tested. TSH only is not adequate testing.
Hashimoto can cause sudden anxiety that comes and goes plus a bunch of other issues.

I asked to have some bloods done today but the doctor said no! My last TSH was done in Feb and this was 1.39
Did he do Antibodies? If not then you have no idea if you have Hashimoto's disease which can makeSymptoms come and go ….. did u read the article I added to post?
Hi, I did read it.. there’s a long list of symptoms there.. I’ll get an appt with the Dr next week. I’m seeing a psychiatrist on Tuesday but I’m convinced that this is mechanical not psychological
Keep us posted it will be interesting
Will do.. like I said, I’m meeting with the psych on Tuesday so we’ll see how we go
Hello---Personally, I think those feelings might be completely justified, given some of the things that have happened to all of us lately. However, I think it could help to talk to a therapist while also figuring out what is going on with your medication/physical health. Take care!
Hi Ben,
Think I've had RLS for over 30 years. You may want to ask about the med your taking, Mirtazipine.
medicinenet.com/side_effect....
The symptoms your describing could be side effects of Remeron or the other name Mirtazipine. Are you taking it for sleep? Have that re-evaluated by your MD or DO.
Hi, I’m taking it for anxiety. I take quetiapine for sleep
Could be side effects of one of the two drugs and if it started after one of the 2 we're added, process of elimination don't discontinue until you discuss it with your MD, DO, NP or PA. It helps them and you to keep track of what works and what reacts..etc. This is horrible to have especially if it is something that can be easily stopped.
It will be the meds.I'm the same x
I get RLS when I run out of some of my meds and waiting on refill. I use Highlands leg cream, bought at Target, and some melt away tablets they make. I get about 3 hours relief before I have to reapply. Also take a magnesium supplement to calm my nerves. Good a few hours before bed. Muscle Relaxers may help if you can get a script from Doc. Research magnesium as there are many forms and they all do /help different things. Good U-tube videos on the subject. I also take sublingual cherry B-12 and B-1, helps the tingling in my hands as I had thyroidectomy and need CAL/MAG twice daily.
