So I just seen a post somewhere that taking anti inflammatories you’re more at risk for getting the Coronavirus??

As it weakens your immune system or something, well I’m pretty sure I suffer from Costochondritis and taking ibeprofen is the only thing that settles the pain, Can the GP prescribe me anything else if it actually is Costochondritis?? I’m pretty sure it is because all of my symptoms are of them of Costochondritis !

Choices, choices!

NSAIDs compromise your bodies ability to fight the virus.

You could try Paracetamol -- but only if your liver is ok.

Bottom line is not to self diagnose, see a doctor, and avoid situations where you might make contact with the virus.

Ooops we are not supposed to see the doctors either during isolation just ring 111. It is not possible to shut the whole country down it wasn't when the black death occured. Even if in isolation there is still a need for services to get basics to the isolated. Agree all none essential businesses ect could possibly work from home online & telephone. I am beginning to worry now as my food is slowly dwindling and hoarders have stripped the shelves in most supermarkets. At present I am dependent on others to take me to get food and other items. Milk is delivered , newspapers too and many other things by amazon and the like, along with prescriptions . Just have to wait and see how it goes I guess. Think you might find a few older people dying from lack of food especially those who eat out everyday, can't cook, are very frail and cannot manage their own affairs , but to name a few. Suppose we could set up soup kitchens in the suberbs. :)

In Scotland the advice is for the over 70s not to go to gatherings such as Bingo and the pub but to go out to carry on with essential activities. Much more sensible than the idea that older people can stay inside for 4 months or more whilst other people bring them things. That is totally unrealistic

That soounds more sensible to me

Just stay home and only go out as necessary. I’m a very high risk because I take and immunosuppressive drug for my PSA and I’ve been ok I even stood in line for 40 minutes to enter the grocery store....most insane thing ever!

I think it’s more to do with our immune system’s ability to fight the virus if contracted rather than increasing likelihood of contagion.

If your GP has diagnosed costocondritis, they’re the best person to prescribe alternative medication. I use migraines meds, cocodamol, naproxen, & diazepam for pain. I’m aware the latter two reduce the efficacy of other medication I take, so only use when necessary. I’m taking more care with my personal hygiene to avoid contagion as I do to avoid making my pain issues worse & necessitating higher doses of pain meds.

Anti inflammatories target inflammation - nothing to do with immune response. If you were taking prednisone long term then perhaps there is a worry about immune compromised. Reg anti inflammatories are not a risk. There is a difference to allergic inflammation and muscle inflammation that causes pain...

If u are taking anti rejection meds for a transplant you are susceptible or compromised. Most meds do not interfere with immune system in a negative fashion.

Many anti virals that we have already have proven to be very effective fighting this virus so relax and don’t worry about your meds making u more susceptible. 😊

You do realize that by you panicking about getting it you yourself is compromising your own immune system? Body releases certain chemicals during a fear or anxious response. Stay calm please...🌷☀️

Keep calm and carry on. Stress will harm

your immune system. Canuckanon is right.

Drink mint tea or homemade ginger tea. Viruses don’t like these. Make foods using garlic and onions. They’re anti/viral to.

Good luck.

It’s the french health board that have said this. I am sure they will have looked into this. Obviously if you have been on them for a while you best not stop them but instead try and self isolate as much as possible.

Not sure if connected but thought I would mention... When my little ones were wee and they had a viral infection we were always told not to give ibropofen only paracetamol as it can impact their breathing for some reason not sure but I wonder if that has a connection? But as someone above says try not to worry on medication. I too feel nervous and my anxiety is heightened with it all as I am on alot of meds too. So every day now I practice my deep breathing to calm me down and centre myself. I have now stopped watching too much news and started listening to more music to distract and take me to a happier place so my body and mind are not stressed and triggering chemicals inside me that can weaken me. Just think happy place, take care and keep talking to people if it helps 😊kx

I'm maxed out on naproxen, I've been in pain last two days with costocondritis. I've been taking ibuprofen, it's the only bit of relief I'm getting, paracetomal just do nothing. I just start to get heartburn.
