Filgrastim injections and pain

Any of you lovely ladies on Filgrastim? I am half way through my 2nd line chemo and on Carboplatin. Doing Ok with that but since Filgrastim injections I have been getting some soreness in the back of my neck and some aches down my right side where the main tumour is. I didn't get any symptoms from the injections during 1st line chemo. Now this soreness but thankfully the last one today.

I would be interested to know of any symptoms you had, if possible. I know it can cause bone pain but this doesn't feel like coming from bones.

many thanks,

xxxxx

Hi, Sorry to hear that you are suffering like this. I had filgastrim injections last year with carbo/caelyx, but the only side effect was nausea, but managed that ok. I would be tempted to mention these pains to your team. Off the top of my head I cannot remember side effects, mentioned, although I do remember that you could get pain regarding bone marrow. I hope that you feel better soon. x

Thank you so much for the reply. I also got some nausea from the injections during my first line but was managed OK. I had my 5th inj yesterday and this morning the soreness has eased a lot. Bit soon, I think, but maybe just my body getting used to the injections. However, it's good to start to feel normal again. Every twinge can bother me since my diagnosis. I overthink everything! xxxxxxxxx

Hi, I had severe bone pain especcialy in legs, second day was the worst, brr:(

Some aches in place of tumor could be conected with chemo, observe next cycles, it will be better.

Stay calm :)

Thank you for the reply. Sorry you had the bone pain, I've heard it can be very painful for some. I think I have probably got off light with just soreness, 2nd day was worse for me, too. and you might be right that it could be linked to chemo. I see my oncologist in a few days so will ask her. I am better today and have had the last inj now. Many thanks xxxxxxxx

here in the states they recommend taking Claritin when you get the shot as for some reason helps with the bone pain I had neulasta same drug different delivery system but I also didn’t have the bone pain as I called the company and they told me t only happens in 30 % of patients

I take Claritin for bone pain after these injections. I also read a research article that states Pepcid also helps relieves the pain. I take both meds the day before the shot and continue taking it for the following four days and it seems to help.

I've heard that anti-allergy meds can help with these injections so I will talk to the oncologist. However, the pain has gone now the injections are finished and I had the pains for just a few days. Not much to put up with in the scheme of things with this dreaded disease just every pain, ache or niggle makes me focus on it. Thank you so much for the reply, love and hugs xxxxxxx

Hi. I have Filigrastim injections 7 days in every 28 because the Niraparib I take leaves my neutrophils very low. Unlike almost every other drug I have taken since diagnosis two and a half years ago, I have not experienced any side effects from Filigrastim ..I agree that it is often difficult to know what is causing what when we have to take all these drugs but if you were ok with Filigrastim injections the first time it may well be something else. I hope you soon feel better. Best wishes.

Thank you, Alice, for the reply. All the symptoms I had have now gone away, thankfully. I finished my 5 day Filgrastim course 2 days ago so I am assuming it was the injections that were the cause of the discomfort. I see the oncologist next week so will discuss this with her. I took Niraparib for months and each week my neutrophils kept rising as did my Hb but PARP inhibitors did not work for me, unfortunately. I hope they continue to work for you for a very long time. Love and best wishes. xxxxxxxxx

I had similar to you. Didn't feel like bones. Lower back was bad, felt like I'd been kicked in the kidneys. But it didn't last. Yours shouldn't either. Although you have to wonder about taking a drug that can do that. Good luck! x

Thank you so much for the reply. I am sure my pains were from the filgrastim as they went away within 2 days of stopping the injections. I get my next chemo early next week so i shall be taking note of any pains /soreness that begins after the injections. Much love xxxx
