Stage 4B OC, 1st Recurrence. How is CarboPlatin and Gemcitibine as treatment?

I have just been diagnosed with a recurrence after 18 treatments of Carbo and Taxol and debulking surgery. Diagnosed originally in June 2019 with OC stage 4B. I am told because my recurrence happened in 6 months, I “may be” platin resistant.

I am specifically looking for feedback on CarboPlatin and Gemcitibine treatment with Avastin. Also, guidance to avoid ascites, and how to keep a good flow for bowel movements.

I hope to learn from many but excited to follow and learn from women who have practiced integrative methods with their chemo, such as hyper nutrition, detoxing from certain environmental and food sources that contain Sugar, hormones, metals, acid, etc., and finally and most importantly, spiritual practices that promote wellness in the mind and heart. Please do not take this personally, but lovingly, I must say that I am struggling to read and follow women who share only the horrors of our disease with little to no sharing of what they are doing to build up their spiritual faith and hope and gratitude for life. A focus on controlling the outcome, while a natural practice, is led by primal fear. I have chosen to let go of the fear, the outcomes and believe in God, the spirit, my self healing body, to do it’s best to heal and keep me in a state of comfort and peace. Some of you may think this is “Polly-Anna”, but this thought process has brought me so much peace. Please help me by sharing your success stories!!! Healing and good vibrations to you all. May you float like a feather on a warm beautiful day. ♥️🙏🏻

I was diagnosed 18 years ago and was free of this until this year where it has come back and am on treatment. 18 years ago someone gave me the book You can Heal your Life by Louise Hay and this was like a Bible for me. Sometimes something just clicks and this book was it. I feel there is healing in the universe and in a higher being/power so ask for help. Whatever people's opinions if it helps you it cant be wrong. Sending positive thoughts x

OMGoodness. I’ve actually got this book. I haven’t looked at it for a lot of years. Does it really help Lizzieanne? I must admit I didn’t really have any health problems when I bought it, just domestic so perhaps I’ll try reading it again.

For me it did. Just felt it focussed my mind and made me more positive. I have just sent for another book recommended and it has just arrived Beating Ovarian Cancer by Chris Bledy. Reviews say quite uplifting. So am going to read this. Has anyone read this.

Dear Kit, I really don't know about your real situation, but your courage to search and trying new ways is important.

if you have a good and supporting oncologist discuss with him new ways to stand against the recurrence when you Carbo resistant.

there are new compositions your Dr can think about or try .

continue with any thing that improve your peace and comfort!

be the brave fighter for your self and hope for good results with other

new possible treatments.

I wish you standing with all your energy against the recurrence.

You can WIN!

We can all win! I think the mindset of infinite possibilities is a first step for getting out of the tiny box of medical approaches. I mean, when you break your arm, your doctor doesn’t heal you, she sets a cast, and YOUR BODY HEALS YOU. I vow to seek self healing and not count on oncology alone. Thanks so much for your response and support ❤️❤️

Hi Kit. I'm on carbo/paclitaxol first line treatment at the minute, so can't comment on your protocol. But I have found this book to be massively helpful in terms of nutritional information/recipes for all stages of chemo: The Cancer-fighting Kitchen: Nourishing, Big-Flavor Recipes for Cancer Treatment and Recovery by Rebecca Katz. It's American format, so uses cup measures, but that's easy: just use an ordinary mug (around 8 fluid oz) as your 'cup', and do everything proportionally from there. Best of luck with your treatment!

I myself have the same staging but for Uterine Cancer. As for eating the Dr’s told me not to go on a specialized type of diet until am done with treatment and no supplements. Never been a huge sugar eater in the first place. Once I am done will get back to smoothies etc to make sure I get all the nutrients my body needs. Right now is trying to get as much protein and water I can tolerate due to having my debulking surgery 6 weeks ago.

Daily I talk to God and my guardian angels which I ask for another 43 years with no bumps in the road. It gives me peace that I am giving my worries to a higher level and loved ones are watching over me.

I take one treatment and day at a time, and never dwell on the future or look at Dr. Google. Have one of the best teams for treatment and amazing family and friends to carry me on.

My treatment was the same as yours, but have 3 treatments then surgery and then 3 more. Just finished then 4th and 2 more to go...woot woot.

Hugs,

Shelly

Hi Kit, I was on Carboplatin, Gemcitabine & Avastin for 1st recurrence in Sept. (Currently on Avastin as maintenance) I’d recommend having a port inserted - I didn’t but wish I had. Needs to be done prior to commencement of treatment though as Avastin thins the blood & would therefore have to be stopped for any surgical procedure. For the same reason, I’d also suggest having dental checkup & any relevant treatment.

When receiving Gemcitabine - I found bringing a very small hot water bottle or some sort of hot pack helpful. Placed on arm where I was to get it, warmed veins & helped it go in easier.

I’m trying LDN - low dose naltrexone - have read stories that it extended remission period but can’t verify it. So, I’m NOT recommending it but I’m giving it a go. I do know several people who swear off sugar- I’ve tried keto- vegetarian but wander back & forth. Also know someone who takes a fresh green juice a half hour before each meal - she felt she had good results from that. I can’t say any of these work, but they are what I’m trying.

Oh! I also had colonic irrigation as I struggled with a near bowel obstruction, it seemed to work for me until the GemCarbo kicked in & shrank it. Again, not recommending it but it seemed to help me.

Love L Hay. Might try to follow your replies ( if you don’t mind & if I can figure out how 🤣)

Do you have a start date? Best of luck X

This is extremely helpful. I scheduled my port the day before I start Avastin. The burning was like Texas chainsaw massacre on my arm lol! I am drinking tons of alkaline water with low doses of miralax To hopeful maintain some kind of regularity. I started chemo yesterday CarboGemz. Was all jacked up on steroids today and noticing some Gemz effects. Learning, and doing okay tonight. Sending you positive vibrations and all healing thoughts. Thank you so much for your generous response!!!

I was diagnosed with stage III3/4 Fallopian Tube Cancer (spread to ovaries , peritoneum, etc.) in Feb 2019. Had a lot of ascites and a small amount of pleural effusion. Surgery (a doozy!) and 6 rounds of carbo/taxol. I am 45, now. Went 9 months clear, but since June my CA-125 has gone up (steady around 10, then 32, then 82, then 183...each checked 3-weeks apart for clinical trial) I’ll find out today where it is at from yesterday’s blood draw. Crazy thing is I had two CT scans showing up clear. However, bloating and distension is slowly increasing these past few weeks. Otherwise all of my other blood counts are good, heart is healthy, and breathing is healthy. I’m very active and have been even more so lately, but gaining a few pounds due to ascites starting. Yuck! Anyways...I have a positive attitude like you! I have decided I am not going to “battle cancer” rather I am going to “overcome” it. I feel that state of mind keeps me in the driver seat. Currently I am working to be even more disappointed about my diet. Diet, rest, state of mind, exercise, meditation, prayer, and love are areas I have control over. Taking good care in those areas could potentially have control in the cancer area. I hope. Anyhow...I’m rambling a bit here. I love what you wrote and want to keep in contact and share what we are doing to stay at ease and rise above this immense challenge. 🌼❤️☀️

Thank you for your amazingly generous response! We control what we can, but believe strongly in the idea of infinite possibilities! I hope we remain in touch , I would love to be a support system and build momentum around gratitude and love. I don’t know you but I want good things for you! Sending positive vibrations and healing your way ♥️💪
