I have swollen and painful knees the pain travels up my left leg and left hip which has curtailed my walking any distance which has knock on effects with my normal way of life.

My wife has Dementia and I am her carer which I find it getting harder day by day.

Hi Colin, I just thought I would mention to you, that taking a vitamin D supplement daily can be helpful for your knee and leg/hip pain, plus it is known to be helpful for dementia patients too, as it is known that most people who have dementia have low levels of vitamin D. Maybe you could try walking around your home at frequent short intervals during the day, try counting your steps, and keep adding to them gradually. Movement definitely helps with bone and joint pain.-I always use a hot water bottle when I am in pain, and simply place it over the sore spots, works a treat for me ,as bones are known to love the heat. Though for your swollen knees ice is best to take the swelling down. My elderly mother was suffering from a sore back for a wee while, and when I bought her a hot water bottle to use, it made a great difference to her comfort levels. Great to take it to bed with you as well, as bones /joints always hurt more when you lie down at night. Hope this may help you. Best Wishes Tamms

there is a Homeopathic herbal crème called Traumeel. You will have to find it on Amazon. It is an anti inflammatory, so it should help with the swelling of the knees. I always have it at home for aches, pains and bruises. Other than that, I agree with the person before me who suggested ice Also, instead of sitting normally in a chair, try elevating your knees when you are not walking I tweaked my knee last week, and have been sleeping with a pillow under my knee, as well as sitting on the couch sideways, my knee propped up by a bolster it has made a difference in my recovery
