I don't know if my question is permitted. Please accept my apologies if it is not - I will understand if it doesn't appear
I have collected a couple of reputable website links for aids and accessories since RA diagnosis in Jan 2022 but none of them sell heated gloves, either fingerless or full.
I'm looking for fingerless gloves that can be plugged into a choice of power sources 1) a usb plug for static use at home or 2) a power bank when out and about.
I don't mind paying a bit more for safe gloves, or longevity, but I can't spend a lot of money. I know expense is relative but I hope you get the jist!
Can you suggest, or provide a link, to any you have seen or (ideally) purchased please?
I read Amazon reviews but, these days, don't fully trust all the positives. But I would buy from any supplier if the gloves are recommended by forum folk here.
Thank you for any help.

I’ve never heard of any on a mains supply only battery. I mean and I might be being thick but how could you move if plugged in. And might be dangerous 240 volts and it’d only need a drop of water to short you out. That and circuit breakers would plunge you into darkness never mind any other risks.I think that may be why you can’t find them. Why not buy the battery ones and use rechargeable batteries.i find that the silk ski linings for ski mittens are good as my leather gloves unless it’s freezing and cost a lot less plus are finer.
Thank you medway-lady. My 'static at home' plan is use the gloves at a laptop or desktop pc so no movement
You made realise I had not asked my friend: what power is his usb plug? He told me "output 5v". I've just checked to see if I have one and I do, and my power bank is 5v too.
I had already tried his gloves (purchased from Ebay): the warmth is poor and the knitted fabric is already coming apart at the base of the fingers. He says "they're cheap and better than nothing". Not a good advertisement.
Perhaps you are spot on and I won't find anything!
It’s interesting as my husband, is a retired electrical engineer and he laughed, I hope you find something but just be careful as all those Chinese batteries blowing up might indicate it’s not a good idea.
No he laughs a lot at my “good ideas” and is very scathing about how seemingly good ideas I have might kill me. So far I’ve been stopped using the hair dryer in front of bathroom mirror, getting toast out of toaster with a knife, he’s always telling me to unwind the extension lead as they can overheat and never plug on extension lead into another and that’s just the last few weeks. lol xxx
I use toast tongs from Lakeland. Made from Bamboo and magnetic so stick to the toaster. The magnet does get hot though. I've been known to use a knife also. Your hubby wouldn't need to visit at Christmas when I have half the national grid diverted for the old lights. 🤣
You cheered me up as I lie in bed with a cup of tea and burnt toast. Desert Island my old mum use to call it too. The blisters have still not burst and despite the anti virals I still feel unwell. Not really ill, just off colour so no rush to get up. I know what you mean about lights our old ones had character, the new ones are clinically perfect and have no soul. But I won’t let him get rid of Frosty our 25 year old Snowman, bought for garage roof. Our Council was going to not put up lights in the towns, after a huge protest the local traders are helping with the huge cost but honestly when they are in such huge debt does another £75k really matter? I’ve not complained about the toast and lack of jam as at least his own is like it so he probably doesn’t even realise you can butter to the edge of the bread. Xxx
I’ve got a greengage tree in the garden and a few apple ones. We’ve a huge amount of figs and my friend is picking them to make jam. The greenages never seem to last long enough for jam as friends always say “ oh. How nice I do like greengages and you don’t see them much in the shops” so it’s the usual “ just help yourself” and good friends do. lol There are big pear orchards hereabouts and my freezer has blackberries ready for cold day deserts. Enjoy your jam, is it Victoria or Margery plums?
Almost as good as free ones? Do you do Damson jam and I’ll go next week to collect sloes for gin. I’ve also made quince vodka, a really old fruit that is weird looking can only be eaten well cooked but makes good golden vodka. Xx Trouble is it has to be hidden for a few months to mature. Shaking and patience is needed but easy to make.
I learnt many years ago to be careful around electrical appliances. Lesson from my ex. Hoover was threatening to give up working, it was very old. Ex produced metal screwdriver and proceeded to attempt to fix Hoover. Hoover at this point was still plugged in and socket still on. It was very difficult not to laugh when seeing him suddenly shooting across the room! A very good demonstration of what not to do. Oh, he was very lucky and wasn't harmed in the demo.
Crikey that was bad, I once cut the trimmer cable and the trips went. So easy to forget how dangerous electricity is yet we depend on it and take it for granted. Xx
I've just placed an order on Amazon for rechargeable battery hand warmers (2 in the pack).
My key concern was weight for static use in the house. The batteries will be inside my fingerless gloves on top of my hands, or the little pouch thing on top depending on the size and heat emission, and they need to be VERY light for old RA hands. I ordered some weighing just 85 grams; others weighed between 116 and 209 grams.
Most were manufactured in China I've probably chosen the blow up kind!
IF they work for me and I'm willing to recommend them, and if it's acceptable to include a link to a commercial product on the forum then I'll post a review after testing them.
I didn’t mean I like loosing hair! When I took it years ago it was like being set on fire. I took it then half an hour was drenched in sweat and my hair came out in handfuls so it was stopped. The heat started in the tummy then spread all over.
I have recently bought a pair of hand warmers from amazon and they are great. I only need them on the lowest heat setting and they last all day - I would recomend.
Thank you. I'm fairly sure mine will be fine for going out and about. I have to wait and see if they are the solution when using a keyboard. Here's hoping
My husband and have bought a few things tools to help me with RA problems, long before I was diagnosed. Some were useless from the outset, most are still helpful and a couple have always been essential. We never know!
I hope the hand warmers are one of the good buys because cold hands hurt!
As a very old hand..both in age & years of RA..I work on the premise if something is too cold to do without gloves…I don’t do it!
What sort of Tablet/LapTop do you use….. why not find out of it has a dictation facility ….. Then you can just sit there with your nice warm gloves, or cuddling a hot water bottle….. and talk at it!
I found that heated pads that you unwrap and put in gloves work well for me, especially when my fingers curl with carpal tunnel syndrome and need warmth to get them open. They are only use once though. Aldi did some cheap ones that worked well.
I looked at these years ago but dismissed them! They were advertised as being eco friendly but I wasn't ready to trust it. Probably unfair.
I had believed the tea-bag blurb about being fully compostible. The tea bag content disappeared quickly, but I spent 2 years pulling leftover bits of non-composted plasticbag from the compost bins and garden.
The handwarmers arrived yesterday afternoon, two days before expected. I didn't pay extra for delivery and don't have a prime account so it was a surprise.
The weight is perfect for me but there is a major flaw in my plan.. You probably know this already but I didn't... They are curved for holding in the palm of your hand and the heat is emitted from the curved side for more skin contact. Turn them over on top of the hand and there's less skin contact - what a plonker
They are definitely warm on the first setting; too hot for me in the palm of my hand, while indoors anyway.
It's an unfair test because I'm not using them as designed but with some jiggery pokery they might yet be suitable. I need just one layer of fabric to separate and dissipate the heat on top of my hands so...
I butchered one pair of fingerless gloves by removing the fold-over pouches and put the handwarmer inside the loose pouches. Then those inside another pair of fingerless gloves on top of my hands against the skin. The concept worked but it was not really cold this morning.
They'll be fine if used as designed. For me, if I'm determined to flaff about, they might work for keyboard use too. But I'm not holding my breath!
Off topic reply. My son makes two hard boiled eggs and carries them on his 40 minute walk to work in his pockets on cold winter mornings, keeping his hands warm and an easy cheap lunch.
