I started the injection this morning but once it had clicked and the needle had dropped down, all the methotrexate was suddenly pooled at the base of the pen, on my leg.
I quickly removed it, mopped it up and washed. The needle had punctured my skin but I don’t think any of the meds had gone in. Should I do a new injection? I don’t think the nurses are in today.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks.

That happened to me once and it was a Saturday. I didn't think any of the MTX had gone in either and didn't know what to do, so rang the nurse's helpline on the Monday morning and was told not to inject another one just in case some had gone in but to leave it until the following week. I would wait until you speak to your rheumy nurse and get advice from her/him.
no don’t inject again as you don’t know how much has gone in. Pens can be faulty, it happens every now and then, , let the supplier know so they can monitor the batch. Make sure you’ve cleaned up and disposed of everything correctly as mtx is cytotoxic.
Thanks for all your replies. The pharmacist was helpful in that he was going to report it to Metoject. I’m waiting to hear from the nurse. I didn’t do another injection.
Just a thought, but do make sure you keep the contact, with the plastic end still in total contact with your skin, for about ten seconds after the click. I know it can jump out too soon if you don't keep it held down.
I had this happen, and was asked for the serial number on the pen and box, apparently they need these to keep a log of faulty batches, so if you can keep it handy for when you ring
Hi. I recently had a metoject pen malfunction on me. I took the pen out of the box, and prepared myself for the injection, when I took the yellow top off all of the liquid sprayed out. I took the pen back to the chemist and got a replacement, I hope that they reported it the manufacturer? I’m guessing that there has been some manufacturing defect.
When I got my injections I got a cytotoxic spill kit in case of spillage..it's gathering dust under my bed. I was thinking you might have gotten use out of yours. 😂
Not had it happen to me recall the nurse saying to check the needle case etc before injecting, but not always obvious if faulty. Why we're asked to keep a record of (batch number etc) the injection we used.
I had a vomiting reaction one time same day as my injection they fed back batch info, but we never were sure what caused my vomiting that day.
When I’ve had duff pens they've just not released so I’ve just used another pen. If you're unable to be informed what to do by your team then wait until next week to inject again as yours malfunctioned & liquid was released, you may be over-dosing, as in injecting an extra dose to your normal mg, not overdose.
Dispose of whatever you used to clean up carefully & put into a bag within a bag, & if any spilled onto carpet thoroughly clean with carpet cleaner, especially if you have any pets who could lick the area. Dr Beckmans is useful in such situations.
You can take the demic one & it's box back to the chemist who supplies them, they should replace it for you.
