A & E morphine

i was ambulanced to A & E yesterday with excruciating pain in my back. They've put it down to RA or osteoarthritis, no scans,x-rays nothing. They gave me 3 oral doses of morphine while I was there and on discharge at 2.30 this morning they said I'd get a call today to go and collect a filled prescription for 3 days of morphine.i ve rang them twice and they are saying I will get a call when it's ready but this is only after they tell me the chemist is closed as it's Sunday and I tell them I was promised I'd get the meds today.i m in agony!can sit, stand lie down for my re than a couple of minutes each one. has anyone had this where they were told by a & e you would get them on a Sunday and did you actually get them. they wouldn't let a dog suffer like I am at the moment!

I hope your feeling a bit better as that sounds truly awful. Around here we get given an NHS prescription for any chemist and there is one near the hospital open 24 hours a day. But mophine is a controlled drug I believe so may be different dispensing regime.

thanks for reply Medway X after ringing them 4 times plus my sister actually going in I finally got the morphine at half 6 tonight. Taking it at 8 so kicksin before bed hopefully. Mind I'm mostly in bed anyway. It's agony. Only way I can describe pain is constant labour contractions.

if your having labour like symptoms in your back, look out for a rash, I had this for 3 days and developed shingles, apparently it is a common symptom. Hope your feeling better soon xx

I hope its better today my mum had a fractured spine though osteoporosis and had morphine patches which I know helped her. The trouble getting them was so hard and I actually said to her 30 something doctor "what is your problem she's 85. do you think she's going to suck the morphine off the patch ?even if she did what is the issue?" in short he filled the prescription that day. Where has common sense gone ? If it helps my mum had a reaction to one patch but it was not the morphine but the adhesive that changed she was fine and no side effects she enjoyed a good few more years pain free. xx

PS cat cat is right I was admitted via A&E with a suspected broken hip for X-rays and it was shingles. I was kept in on a water bed for 3 days so they could get the pain under control. xxx

WOW i am sure if they wanted to they would be able to get the morphine for you without a prescription to tide you over.xxxx

I was taken into A&E 10 days ago with excruciating lower back pain. I am still in hospital now & been on morphine etc but nothing is helping. I can’t sit up properly & sitting on the loo causes terrible pain. I have seen doctors in medical, orthopedic, pain & others but none of them seem to know what to do. I had an MRI that showed scoliosis, slipped discs, degenerative disc disease, trapped nerves & more. I also have RA, OA, PsA & fibromyalgia. I am being told I can go home soon but how can I manage with this sort of pain? I hope you soon get some help & do keep us informed. Xx

oh holly I'm so sorry you have this totally debilitating pain. I know I have degenerating disk disease I was told about 6 years ago but they said it wasn't too bad at that point. I'm taking co-drydamol now as well as the morphine and managed to sleep for 2 hours this afternoon. I'm the same, I can't sit, standing hurts, sitting on the loo hurts trying to get comfy in bed is terrible. It is totally horrendous. I'm sure they send you home as they want the bed. My gp rang again earlier and said do stretching exercises! I can hardly move let alone do exercise! Keep in touch and I hope the pain subsides very soon and that they can sort you pain before they send you home xx
