Methotrexate injection

I’m due to start on a methotrexate injection but I work full time, the training session is likely to be during a work break so just wondering if there are any side effects how long do these take to kick in as don’t want to be feeling ill at work. Also does it hurt to inject? Thanks in advance.

It will take you about 10 seconds to learn how to inject, and no it doesn't hurt. I am the biggest wimp when it comes to needles 😬 but I don't even think about it.. cap off, press to skin, click button, down sorted👍😂. Everyone is different with side effects, I personally just feel a bit sickly a few hours after, but nothing that stops me doing anything. You'll work out the best time to do your own injection eventually.

Thank you for the reassurance.

If I can do it anyone can, honestly I use to come out in a cold sweat thinking about injecting myself, but it's just part of my weekly routine now. I also inject benepali...now that's a bit stingy 😂

It's really easy and painless 😉I get a bit foggy headed several hours after the injection and sometimes have some nausia the next day but it's manageable and drinking plenty of water helps 😉

Tummy way less painful than thigh. In fact, pain free.

Like everyone has said, really quick the training all of 10 secs. Doesn't hurt at all. I've had no side effects and i feel generally great. Hope you feel the benefits i do from the injection.

Agree, pain free but I feel weary the day after my jab. Lots of fluid seems to help. Good luck!

Like others have said, it’s very easy to do and doesn’t feel like an injection. First couple times I did it I had to read the instructions to make sure I was doing it right but after that I did it quickly without thinking. On the day I take it / day after I can feel tired but not sick or other side effects. Good luck.

I started the injections during lockdown so learned watching a video from a link that rheumatologist sent. Watched a coupke of times then had a go. Really as simple as that

I found it painless ( especially on the tummy , sometimes could bruise on thigh ) I didn’t get on with MTX at all but I can say that the side effects were usually the day after , not right away .

It can be a facer if you've never needed to inject before, we're all used to it now. Not much I can add except inject alternate sides each week. When I receive my script I write on my boxes L or R then I don't need to try to remember which side of my tum I injected the previous week. This video explains clearly what your do metoject.co.uk/healthcare-p...

I tend to get yucky and tired so take mine in the evening not long before going to bed to sleep through side effects. As said easy to do and we're all different how it effects.

All the best :)

Easy to do. I feel a bit nauseus the next day, but so much better than tablets. I've a really full on job, and with the injection I'm almost normal! Been on the injections for a year now. Made such a difference. When I had the training, I burst into tears when I was given the sharps bin to take home. Very unlike me. I think it was the realisation that I have a chronic, incurable condition. Which obviously I knew, but seeing the sharps bin, and knowing it was going to be in my house, as a constant visual reminder really brought it home! Don't worry, definitely relatively painless, and for lots of us has made a difference. You may need to play with the amount, but worth giving it a go and persevering.

As others have said, I found the actual injecting pretty ok and you'll get used to the weirdness of doing it! For me, the key thing is that I have to do it right before bed, because within half an hour or so I'm feeling really very odd. I get hit with mtx fog pretty strongly the next day but for me it also comes on really fast! I did my first injection at a training session with the rheumy nurse and, by the time I'd taken the hour long bus home, I was struggling to walk in a straight line.. glad I wasn't driving! But from what people here have said it really sounds like I'm an odd one out 😆 Hope it works out well for you 🤞🤗
