More surgery and a new condition 😢

LesBev profile image

Hip replacement number two and I’m two weeks post surgery. No biological now for two months and everything hurts. Also, been on steroids years and after being quite ill in hospital seems I have adrenal inefficiency. It was scary to come home alone after major surgery with a new condition, boxes of steroids and an emergency inter muscular injection kit! How am i meant to build up a syringe, fill it from an ampule and inject my thigh when my hands are rubbish? Roll on spring and warmer days. It’s rubbish when your home feels like a cage 🙄

It will get better I hope so a big hug to all of you having a challenging day today X

Ok I’m inspired.....I’m online to find some sunny plants to order, that’s the problem with being stuck in, too much online shopping! Ouch (that’s my bank account saying stop now!) x

I also get packets of seeds LesBev like marigolds and love in the mist. They’re much cheaper and it’s lovely to watch the miracle of seed to flower. Much cheaper too, plus they’re ‘ your babies’! Gardening even if in very small bursts is very therapeutic.

Can you get in touch with your GP for help. Our area has an enablement team who can come out to help you. It’s NHS run and just for the short term. I have used them after major ops. They help with personal washing etc, they also have community nurses to administer medication. Hope you can get some help. X

Unfortunately it seems to happen when we have RD. I’m on low dose steroids. Do you have a thyroid condition too. Thank you for your wishes and the same to you. X

LesBev in reply toGigi71

So far I don’t think my thyroid is a problem but with RA who knows what the future will bring. I was trying to wean off steroids after being on them 4 years but it seems that may not now be possible.

Why do doctors leave you on them so long when this can happen! Grrrr!

Thank you for replying to me, I love the support we all get on here x

I’ve been on them 34 years and when they put me on a bio med 12 years ago, they wanted me off them, but I resisted. So I can’t blame them entirely, unfortunately I have skin problems, osteoporosis and waiting for a spinal op. When I was dx 34 years ago, I was bombarded with steroid injections in most of my joints as they believed this would help. I am left on them now as it’s too late. This forum is a wonderful help I agree with you. Please take all the help you can get. X

I’m sorry your having such a bad time even harder when on your own. Hope you recover quickly so you can get back on the Biologic. I certainly am not as bad as you but I’ve had a stubborn chest infection and going into 3 rd week without Biologic and boy can I tell . 2 months must be a nightmare . Here’s to a good recovery x

Hi LesBev, I’m not at Replacing joints stage but know it is a big, daunting operation. You need help and support at home.

I’d not be able to assemble the injection either. Also, waiting for infusions to work, if they will, began December, so on steroids but trying to keep to low dose. Been like this since June.

There must also be recommended action for treating adrenal insufficiency... or is it not permitted post op?

A friend had hip replacements so I know you need a lot of help, hope you get it!

Sending you big hugs and lots of love♥️❤️💐.

I don’t know what you are going through, I am just going by my own pain.

I was on a high dosage of steroids, glad I am not on them anymore , just had cataract fast growing done a few weeks ago, due to steroids they told me, as I got it when I was 54.

Still not got my pain under control yet, after 4 years, now it’s my hip.

I do not go out because of pain and tiredness.

So LesBev my thoughts are with you.

With having RA I have to be a brave wee soldier 💂‍♀️

You take care, and get in touch with your doctor, see what they can do to help. Xxx

Aww thank you so much honey, that’s a lovely reply and I really appreciate it. You are going through it too! I’ve had to resort to morphine patches I change every week, they do take the edge off. Have you tried them?

Stay strong and know you are in my thoughts.

Biggest hugs and although we don’t get out much our thought are with each and every one of us! Lx

Bless your heart! Prayers your recovery is quick and complete. So sorry you are having a bad time. I live in Texas and we have mixed weather weekly, which my body doesn't like at all. We have temps in the 30's one day and 70's two days later🤪 I too am ready for Spring & summer😊take care of yourself. I have had two knee replacements and a lumbar fusion and hoping not for a hip replacement. Trying to hold off as ling as I can.

Hi there, that weather sounds a challenge honey with our condition. You have had a hard time but I’m smiling as we will both end up bionic!

I live in York, UK, and I’ve woken up to a few inches of snow this morning. It’s pretty but I’m def staying in with the heating on.

The daffodils had just started to open in my garden and now they are hanging their heads with the weight of snow.

As you say, roll on spring. Do you every get snow in Texas?

Stay safe and sending you hugs and warmest wishes for a pain free day.

Hello lesbev. I know how you feel but your steroids are no use over time they will weaken your bones. Ask your Dr to give you the strongest patches she can provide you with they will help pain and will be better for yourself than steroids
