Did you have to have a colon cleanse. The Nephrologist ordered us one. They said the colon has to be clean. Did anyone with a PD catherter have to do this before you had your PD Catherter placed. Thank you
For anyone who has a PD Catherter - Kidney Disease
For anyone who has a PD Catherter
The nephrologist ordered it, not the surgeon? Is the catheter being placed in a non standard place?
The nephrologist is the one putting it in and it’s going to be done in a hospital. I’m going to call tomorrow and try to find out why the colon cleanse I have never read anything about a colon cleanse he just emailed us the instructions before the catherter is placed. Thank you for your reply
Mine was done with a surgical cut, he might be doing it laparoscopicly. Maybe that requires a colon cleans?
Thank you for your reply I’m going to get more information from the nephrologist tomorrow. I’ll post when I find out why. Thanks again I appreciate your input
So far no call from the doctors office about the colon cleanse. As soon as I find out I will be posting. If I don’t here anything soon I’ll be calling the Dr again.
I had a pd catheter placed and other than fasting for surgery no other special prep required.
Was yours done laparoscopic surgery? The Doctor just recently emailed us the instructions and he had a colon clense taking Golytely. I have never read anything about doing that before the procedure. I’m calling the Dr today to find out why. Thank you so much for replying
Surgeon did mine no colon clean first time I heard of that
No - no bowel cleanse needed. I've also never heard of a nephrologist doing that procedure - it's generally a surgeon. I suspect the procedure is done via laparoscope or similar tool (lower abdomen) for most everyone. I've never heard of it It piercing the colon.
Also just had to fast before surgery, but no colon cleanse.I had a surgeon also.My Nephrologist never even considered putting it in.
Did you solve the mystery? We are all waiting for an explanation 😉
One possibility is that for PD to work you must not be backed up (for lack of a better term). Constipation restricts the dialyzing.
This doesn't sound right. First of all, Nephrologists do not normally do surgery. As for the colon cleanse, maybe the surgeon asks the Neph to do that to make insertion of the catheter easier for him. If the colon is full of feces, it might make it harder for the surgeon to get it in the right spot. I didn't have to do it for the surgery but I do know that having an empty colon makes draining better once you start PD.
Thank you so much. I’ll be posting when I get more information from the Dr. I need to know why the colon cleanse
