I have written a lot about using Ozempic. My short reply is it is great for diabetes. I did not lose weight on it, but I am on the lowest dose. Last lab done, It lowered my A1c to the 5.0. It has been consistently @ 5.6 for the last two years and I am stage 5
Kidney doc is right (link below incl kidney risk). Then again ALL slimming drugs have significant, serious side effects, hence why theyve invariably been withdrawn over the yrs when the number of casualties reaches a certain level. Pharma companies have likely profited sufficiently by then! You'll find others on HU making similar, negative comments on the new, "wonder" slimming pill Wegovy (semaglutide).
I suggest you see a qualified Nutritional Therapist instead - for sustainable weight loss. I can send links if you can commit to that.
I’m pre-diabetic. I just made the cut basically. I’m sad that my numbers dropped but they have dropped before without using monjaro. He said they can cause irreversible damage? So I don’t know. I get confused as to what to eat. If I eat too much protein it’s bad. I cut sugars out pretty much and bread. But the shot helped me to do that. I don’t know which way to go. I would love to keep doing it as I have two more weeks.
I'm on wegovy, the weight loss dose of ozempic. It does help you not be hungry. I lost 35, but have gained some back. You can never be off it and keep the weight off. All the evidence shows willpower is NOT the cause of obesity. It took months to taper up to the 2.4 dose to avoid side effects. I didn't get any side effects. BUT most people do. The leading side effects are gastro. I don't have a colon and have constant runny stools in my ileostomy bag. That's the cause of my CKD, 30 years of dehydration. I did not feel the effects of lose weight until I got to the 2.4 dose.
Hi, Your post jumped out at me and I just had to respond. I too have taken Mounjaro. I took it for T2 Diabetes. Lost 7 lbs first week I was on it. Started at 2.5 mg in Feb. 2023. By May my kidney function test was all out of whack. My GFR was 33 my creatine was very high. Protein was high and had blood in my urine. Lost 30 lbs total just being on 2.5 mg for 7 weeks. She put me on 5 mg and I was on that for 2 months. It made me so nauseated I could not eat or drink anything. But I did not lose any weight while being on the 5 mg. When I went to my doctor in May, she took me off Mounjaro cause she said I was losing too much weight too fast. I told her I lost all the weight while on the 2.5 mg and that I haven't lost any while on the 5 mg. She still took me off. I was rechecked on June 22, and my numbers are going back to normal. I believe the Mounjaro made me dehydrated and that messed my kidneys up.
wow thanks for responding. As much as I hate it I am probably going to have to come off it. I have one more round and then will stop. I don’t know what the difference is though in ozempic and monjaro but he seems to think there is. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Butchga. You are welcome. I hope everything works out for you. I heard that when a person stops taking Mounjaro that they gain their weight back. I am still losing weight. . I told my doctor that I would continue to watch what and how much I eat. I have lost right at 10 lbs since being off Mounjaro. When I was on Mounjaro my cravings for sweets went away and now I still don't want any. I may eat an ice cream cone every now and then, but I don't eat sweets like I used to. Chocolate doesn't taste the same anymore so I don't eat it. So far (since Feb) I have lost almost 40 lbs. Like I said. I hope things work out for you.
My PCP just took me off Ozempic 2.0 and would not switch to Mounjaro because both can hurt kidney function and mine went from 21 to 14 in 6 months. So we are trying Glipizide again for T2 diabetes and Tradjenta. Supposedly it is not processed through the kidneys. I lost 27 pounds in 18 months on Ozempic and hope and pray I don't gain it back. It did make most food not taste good and reduced my desire to eat.
Thanks for your comment. I guess I’m going to have just to try and do it myself. I see my doc today. I have not done any shots for two weeks purposely until I see him again. He said the monjaro shot is irreversible damage to the kidneys so I am not willing to put myself at risk. I’m sad about it but it is what it is.
