I started the Aranesp finally which is injected every two weeks. The first dose a few weeks ago went ok. I had a headache for a day but that’s about it. I just had my second shot this past Thursday and got a migraine that woke me from my sleep within two days. That’s gone, but my body feels like I’ve been hit by a truck. Super achy and I have growing pains in both my legs. It’s worse after I get back from walking my dog. Stomach seems a bit bloated as well. Anybody else have this experience and did it go away with continued treatment? I’m also going to reach out to my doctor of course and check with him but I just wanted to know what everyone’s personal experience has been with these red blood cell building medications.
Thanks so much for your help!

I've been taking these injections now for about 21 years and have not experienced any side effects. It is highly likely from what you describe, you're having symptoms of later stages of CKD. Is it possible you're combining the two. Just my observation. Blessings
I’m so happy you did not have any side effects! Maybe it’s from worsening CKD but to happen overnight seems a little odd…After further investigation and reading reviews, some people do complain of headache and body ache and these are also listed as possible side effects. I also have a condition called sarcoidosis with a very hyperactive immune system and it feels like that has been activated by the shot.
I had the medication for two years and no side effects. I believe kidney coachIs correct in saying your side effects may be due to your kidney disease and
I’m Very glad you did not experience side effects! I’m hoping this is just side effects and not worsening kidney condition. Would be strange for it to happen overnight like this unless it was triggered by this injection.
This disease is overwhelming and trying understand what your body’s system means. I empathize with you, l have reactions to other medicationsI wish you the best in seeking answers.
How are your side effects now? My 86 year old Uncle is supposed to take these but he is not interested with all the side effects. He is in no pain whatsoever right now. Why make his life miserable what’s left of it? I don’t know what to do either
I’m sorry your uncle is going through this! I Spiked blood pressure yesterday and got another migraine and it still feels like I have growing pains throughout my body/my blood vessels are popping. Still waiting for a callback from my doctor on next steps in regards to this med. Honestly I felt better when I was just plain anemic but I have to get my hemoglobin up so I can pass my treadmill stress test to become active on the transplant list. I seem to be the odd duck though as folks on this site have said they didn’t have any side effects. Can your uncle get a transfusion instead?
Awe, I’m sorry your having so many issues. That is wonderful you will be able to get on the transplant list. I guess the old saying goes no pain no gain. Still Sucks. Scary with the blood sugar spike, this is just one reason on the long list of frequent side effects we are afraid of. My Uncle is older and not in great shape at all. He smokes and sits all day. Can hardly walk. I’m going to listen to my gut and not give it to him. He is in no pain! It’s hard to believe but a blessing. He has most all the other symptoms though. I can’t see adding the chance of making what quality of life he has right now possibly worse. I called into the doc and awaiting a response for our concerns. I will let you know. You do the same once you hear from your doctor. I’ll have you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care J 💕
