I have a stent in my right kidney due to scar tissue damage as a result of bilharzia when I was a child. I had bilharzia for 7 years and had damage to my left fallopian tube but damage to the kidney went undetected until 1 month ago. I am now 61 years old. I have been doing intermittent fasting for a year.

I use a kidney diet from a renal dietitian. You could eat salads one day, but I eat 3 ounces of meat (chicken or fish) at each meal. Not 6 ounces at one meal and no meat at the next. The kidney works best when it is treated best. Good luck.
I would definitely speak to your healthcare team because you are you and your dietary needs should be designed with you in mind. My husband was on dialysis and is also a type 2 insulin resistant diabetic. We are Orthodox Christians, and are supposed to periodically fast, not from food altogether, but from certain foods. Given his dietary needs even though he's had a kidney transplant, he still can't abide by these fasting guidelines. Long story short, the best place to get an answer to your question is from your dietitian, and your doctor or doctors who are all aware of what you specifically need to do to stay feeling your best. Good luck to you!
Hello, I have been doing Intermittent Fasting, as much as possible for a few years.
The FIRST people you need to consult with are your physicians.
For me, right now, it is okay, in fact my primary care doctor, encourages it.
My blood pressure is around 110/60 on medication, my A1C just came down to 6.0 and I plan to get that much lower, my glucose levels have been lowered, I have lost 9 pounds and the way I am eating now, I know I will lose at least 15 to 20 more pounds.
Again, it is okay for ME.
I take Synthroid when I get up, and that is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach.
I take my BP pills, with my first meal, which is usually between 3 and 4, again this works for ME and is okay with my doctor.
I am sitting here drinking my warm lemon water, and my daily goal is at least 4 to 5 glasses of water and tea, before my first meal.
Of course, I follow this way of eating when it makes sense to eat this way.
I have labs on Friday, and my doctor asked me to eat and hydrate.
I love this way of eating, and it suits me, I will eat this way as long as I can.
