My husband takes 2 hydroxycarbanide Mon to Fri. We don’t need contraception. Just wondering do we still need to use condoms. What are the consequences if we don’t?

Hydroxycarbanide
It is recommended that couples consider use of a condom when one of the partners is taking hydroxycarbamide. Hydroxycarbamide (AKA hydroxyurea - HU) passes into semen and vaginal secretions. The partner of the person taking HU is exposed to low levels of this toxic medication. ethrombo.blogspot.com/2017/...
Not everyone chooses to follow this advice. One of the better assessments noted that the risk to the partner is not high. Specifically, irritation of exposed genital tissues is possible. Since HU is a carcinogen, you will need to consider your own risk tolerance and make a judgement call.
It is essential to use effective contraception since HU is both teratogenic and mutagenic. In addition, HU can cause oligospermia/azoospermia in males which is usually, but not always, reversibile. Your husband should have been advised to consider sperm banking if he wants to have children in the future.
Hope that answers your question.
