I had injections for two years and after one injection I said to the doctor "oh, that hurt" and he said "oh, probably hit a nerve!" After that I was so terrified that I had to stop having the injections but now six years later and living abroad can hardly see out of that eye so I should have continued but I am 90 now and do not think I could bear it especially as I live in Spain and do not know how it would be.

sorry to hear that. Occasionally injections hurt but if you need them do go ahead and just ask for extra anaesthetic drops
You could ask for a different anaesthetic to the one normally used, most clinics will have more than one available The anaesthetic drops are more or less instantaneous but it may be worth allowing a couple of extra minutes before having the injection.
Also, ask if they will inject in a different quadrant of your eye, this can be effective for some people.
I'm so sorry, tippins27. Have you talked to the Macular Society? (macularsociety.org Helpline 0300 3030 111). All the best.
