Just Chillin.......

This is Hugo chillin out while he waits to go out in the wind and rain this morning. Pulling on waterproofs and wellies and playing ball is last thing I feel like doing ...id rather go back to bed lol but needs must. We rehomed him aged 5 months following the loss of Marley last year. He wasnt toilet trained, hadn't been on a lead and didnt answer to a name...theyd never had a dog before 🤨. He will be 1 in 2 weeks time . He is comical especially the way he sleeps and is a real tonic even on soggy days like today . Be kind to yourselves ....sit back and chill. 🩷😚🤗SML xxx

No news from me as such...my elbow still gives me grief following it's 2 fractures in Oct and nov ,the peripheral Neuropathy in my feet is getting worse and I've still not got an date for the ligament reconstruction surgery on my foot so on I plod trying to keep on top of all the other stresses life keeps throwing my way.Keep smiling xxx

So glad you shared the cute pictures of Hugo. Your story reminds me of how we got Gig, a border collie. She showed up in our yard after running away from illegal breeders. We ended up buying her from them. She was 6 months old. After 2 months,I was trying to leash train her (even though every one told me I wasn't strong enough and have osteoporsis). She saw a squirrel and I don't remember much except I next had broken my neck and right wrist. I was lucky to survive. She is 4 and is the joy of our lives. Also, very funny. I also have a very sweet cat. The two are the best medicine.

I have neuropathy also in my hands and feet, but mostly my toes are just numb. I hope you get relief for your foot soon.

Healing hugs.

Thanks Pumpkin. Oh my word what an accident to have.😳i thought falling over Hu and breaking my elbow was bad enough.i hope you made a full recovery. Hu was returned to his breeder who is fully licensed and she put him up for rehoming. Both his parents are working dogs on a local country estate and you can see it in him.im pleased your pup gives you so much love and companionship after such an auspicious start.Compression socks worn during the day are helping alot with the Neuropathy at night as for my op ...I'm not looking forward to that as I will in plaster and non weight bearing for at least 6 weeks which has the potential to drive me insane lol.

Onwards and upwards 🫂 xxx

Thanks Meg.We had only had him 4 days when I fell over him and broke my elbow for the first time 🙄 .Walking is my coping mechanism and millie is too old to do it now so even though my heart drops at another wet and windy walk it's good to be out. I hope you are doing as well as can be big hug 🫂 xx

Hugo is such a cutie!!🥰

I was advised by several medical and non medical friends to try high strength good quality turmeric for peripheral neuropathy. I’ve been taking it for 6 months and I’ve seen a vast improvement in both my feet, my hands are another issue but then I’ve had a lot of # in them so the nerve damage is due to another reason.

I hope you’re elbow recovers it sounds so painful ❤️‍🩹

Spanielmadlady profile image
Spanielmadlady in reply toGraystar

Thanks Greystar. I'll see if turmeric has any contraindications with my other meds. Compression socks are helping.Hugo is being a horror at the mo ...I'm trying to paint a new bath panel my son has made.

I broke my elbow again in the same place in Nov bending down to pick up a ball.i had about 5 falls last year🤦‍♀️ Another xray and ct suggested it hasn't healed so sent to an elbow surgeon who wasn't convinced and said come back in 8 weeks and have an mri. No mri and I'm due to go back 🙄 . Puppy walking was hard with one working arm 🐕🚶‍♀️but we did it xxx

Yes it’s always good to check Spanielmadlady as some supplements can be an issue with certain medications. A friend recently kindly suggested I take a triptan based medication for my migraines, I didn’t like to say it could be absolutely deadly for me as I’ve suffered with basilar migraines since childhood. They could cause me to have a heart attack 😬

We’ve just returned from a very soggy dog walk, Teddy is a cavapoo so he literally gets covered in mud as he’s so small and closer to the ground. Well that’s my theory 🥰

Oh dear painting and dogs do not go together I have to have someone sit with Teddy or he’ll run in and brush his tail on the gloss 😏 it’s a nightmare! At least with my cat she gives the smelly paint a wide berth. I wish you luck with the painting!

Walking your dog with a # elbow must be so so difficult, especially with an energetic springer! They have oodles of energy bless you. Hope it’s healing now ❤️‍🩹

Spanielmadlady profile image
Spanielmadlady in reply toGraystar

Omg 😳 thank god you checked. It was miserable out this morning. Mine wear equafleece dog suits far easier to wash then the dog.thay are wind proof and waterproof so 1 clean and dry dog underneath A quick rinse in the washing machine and they will be dry for tomorrow.

Painting is done .

Hes our 3rd springer so im no stranger to their energy . Teaching them downtime helps .

Go back to elbow surgeon next week xx

Graystar profile image
Graystar

Teddy has 3 walks a day, so 3 opportunities for us to get wet 🥰 I had an equafleece but they drag on Teddy’s fur so badly it’s like pulling on Velcro. He has a couple of other coats but nothing that stops all the mud like the equfleece did. They are made locally to me so I do like the idea of them 😏

Good luck with the surgeon next week 🤗💕💕

Spanielmadlady profile image
Spanielmadlady in reply toGraystar

Yes we do too. Oh what a shame as they were designed with cockerpoos in mine. Would a t shirt one underneath help 🤔. Thanks x

Graystar profile image

Maybe but I’ve gotten rid of it now and just use the Hurrta rain coat and the Bella & Duke oil jacket which looks lovely on him 🥰 all he needs is a cap and he’d look like a right country gent 🤣

OMG - He certainly is a spaniel. My late spaniel used to lay like this right up until 5 days before she died at the age of 15 1/2. They bring such joy, even on the muddiest of days. Thank you for sharing Hugo. We're not going to have any more dogs to own - I feel too stressed and my heart can't bear any more animal related issues. We do occasionally borrow a doggy. We're registered on the Borrow-My-Doggy website, but have had to cut this back quite a bit as well. I showed Hugo's photo to my husband and he said you can almost smell him. I think dogs help you deal with the day in a different way and it sounds like Hugo plays a "huge" part of that for you. Enjoy the rest of your day. 🙏

Spanielmadlady profile image
Spanielmadlady in reply toCavendishCool

Our other spaniel millie (15) doesn't do it but marley did. I wasn't particularly looking to get another when marley died but the thought of sitting in over winter was depressing. Hugo just came along we were the only ones Interested in him and i can't help but feel marley sent him.millie is getting very frail now and doesn't go.out much so Hu helps keep me moving .he's been running around like a nut after his ball with a neighbours dog on the green while i've cut the grass. He's goosed now and having his 10 min power nap . Take care xx

CavendishCool profile image
CavendishCool in reply toSpanielmadlady

Sounds to me like Hugo was sent to you especially as you were the only one interested and I'm so glad that you found each other. I have seen dogs save lives. It happened with my youngest son who at one time I thought wouldn't make it so I surprised him with a puppy and he really rallied round. Maxy (the dog) lived until he was 14 1/2 and I'm so glad to say my youngest turned his life around with the love of his dog and is niw 31. If a needy dog turned up at my door I would consider it, but my life took a huge turn after the death of my parents 12 years ago in that I am sole carer and have sole responsibility of my younger brother who was born with cognitive disability and therefore has mental incapacity, so as his needs become more complex, my brain finds it difficult to cope. In fact it is rather like caring for a massive dog. I even take him out for walks 😉😄. Enjoy that power napping, wobbling mass of lovable Springer and I will watch out for photos of the gorgeous Hugo 🙏

Spanielmadlady profile image
Spanielmadlady in reply toCavendishCool

Think the label " returned to breeder" may of put people off wondering what was wrong with him when actually it was his first owners who were wrong.Sorry to hear about your sons issues. I'm pleased he came through them with the help of his dog. My partner died in an rta in 09 when our son was 6. We got marley partly as company for millie when I went back to work and partly for my son to focus on. He was 13.5 when he died last year.i was wary of suggesting Hugo to my son but he was happy to go and see him.

I understand how draining caring for someone is ...I did it for my mum but going out with the dog was a break from it all even if it was just for a short time.

Here is another pic of Hugo that hopefully give you a chuckle xx

So sorry for your losses and thank you for your empathy, but most of all the photos of Hugo. My first Springer at home was a lovely brown variety. He was called Rufus. My Dad rescu. Lovingly ed him one Christmas Eve from a pet shop (remember those?) because he would have been on his own until Boxing Day and my Dad was just horrified so he put him in his jacket pocket and we had a Springer for Christmas and for 12 years after that lovingly referred to as unruly Rufus, raucous Rufus and anything else we could think of. 🙏

Oh what a heart warming story ❤️. I'm happy he gave you 12 yrs of joy. Yes I remember pet shops ...horrible places. millie has a variety of names Inc Mog...m for millie and og for dog 😆 . Hu just has hugi- baby but no doubt he will collect more over the years. Xx

Hey Spanielmadlady. That’s real devotion. Getting out of a nice warm bed, to the wind & the rain. I love dogs (& cats). But i’m mostly a dog lover. Although i love my bed more. Especially when i’m in pain. I can be lazy. So i’ve got the next best pet. A chunky little hamster called Sid. (Sidney when i’m in a bad mood!) He doesn’t need walking in the rain. Or even in the sun. I just let him run in a ball in my flat. Or i really let him loose in my bathroom. I put a couple of vases on the floor & boxes. He just runs round them, over them or in them! I’ve had quite a few over the yrs. Some of them used to climb up me. Even if i was standing. They’d go right onto my head & chew on my hair! Very entertaining. Unless they run up my curtains. The only female i ever had was Naughty Nellie. I think i’ve told of her adventures on here. She chewed through my washing machine plug. I could hear her gnawing. I just couldn’t get to her. As the song goes. ‘The females of the species are more deadly than the males!!’ Enjoy your beautiful dog. Pets can be great. Can lighten our moods! X

Spanielmadlady profile image
Spanielmadlady in reply toVixen2

Oh that is fab.little madam chewing the plug.once has a dog who did that to our fridge flex. Isn't it funny how they get their full names when naughty. Millie gets millicent and she has definitely been more demanding then the boys.nothing i can add to hugo so he gets our surname added on when he's in the dog house. losing marley was a big shock as id lost my mum just 3 weeks beforehand.walking is my stress release and coping mechanism. I live 2 miles from the beach so that is my go to space. Sometimes I come home and need a sleep but there is a sense of satisfaction that I've done it.im fortunate that outside our back gate is large common green all the cottages in my row share so if I'm having a painful, wheezy or stiff day they can run around on the green. The downside is we have to cut the grass .enjoy Sid and I hope there arnt too many SIDNEY! days xxx

Hey. I love the sound of where you live. Lovely old cottages all in a row. With a village green & living near the sea. Beautiful. I envy you. I live in Central London. (Covent Garden). I love the history of the place. But when i’m in pain. Or knackered. I don’t want loads of tourists round me. It’s so annoying pushing through the crowds. I live right off Drury Lane. There are about 4 theatres right outside my door. So the theatre people take over the streets. I actually preferred the atmosphere during lockdown! I could have lovely quiet walks. I walked through the Piazza. Right where they had the market. I really felt how old the area is. But now the crowds are back. I feel London isn’t ‘mine’.

I lost my lovely mum 6yrs ago. I miss her every day. We had our last Christmas in Norfolk. A lovely old hotel with a village green. It was in Wells next the sea. My mum was sweet. Really splashed out. We even went to the Grand in Brighton. She paid for a suite each! I didn’t want to leave. Getting away. Even for a couple of days can really make a difference ‘mentally’. Especially going to the seaside. The fresh air. It’s exhilirating. Enjoy your lovely home! & your sweet dog x

Spanielmadlady in reply toVixen2

It used to be an old village so our cottages are a unique set up and 145 yrs old .there are 2 rows of 4 blocks each block has a green between the 2 rows. We hang washing out, there are picnic benches and some people have put swings.my son has just bought one on the next block. I'm up in Cumbria and can see the lakeland fells . I must admit I'm not a city girl. Lockdown must of been an surreal experience seeing your area so different .My mum was 91 and had been failing since Christmas 22.simply fraility of old age but sadly she was hard work and often nasty in her last few weeks.i sat with her for 10 days on end of life and her last audible words to me were" no one asked you to be here" .thankfully I've done end of life care so nothing I've not dealt with before.

I'm pleased the last few months with your mum were pleasurable and have left you with some fantastic memories.

My home is a tip at the mo as my son is rebuilding the airing cupboard in the bathroom so there is wood, tools, toiletries, towels etc all over the place. He's now on a set of 6 long days so no more progress until next week. Xx

I’m really sorry to hear your mum’s last words. That would have crucified me. We were so close. Maybe it was the medication your mum was on. It can really alter your personality. My dad died when i was 17. (He was 52. Massive heart attack). My mum was also 52 when it happened. (I’m that age now!!) My brother moved to the States. My mum was fantastic. She was a nurse. Really well thought of. I developed arthritis when i was 21. My mum was amazing. 6 yrs ago she started having certain symptoms. We went to a consultant in August 2017. She was gone by October of that yr. I was lost without her. My brother was great. Came over. Slept on a mattress in the hospital. I couldn’t handle it. I would have had a breakdown without him. I went to see her on Sunady 22nd Oct. I stroked her hair. Kissed it. Told her not to worry about me. Said what a fantastic mum she is. She was in & out of consciousness. My brother said he’d leave me alone with her. But i said no. i would have collapsed! We were both crying. It was the most emotional day of my life. When i left the hospital. Going through the doors, into the air. I felt drunk. I felt so lost. I lost the most important person of my whole life. She died 6 days later. The evil c word. I hate it. It secretly grows. Taking people. Every age. Every type of person. It doesn’t care! Sorry. My email’s a bit ‘heavy’. I’m so glad your mum’s last words didn’t ‘break you’. You must be a very empathetic, strong, kind person. Lovely qualities!

Your village sounds lovely. I’ve often liked the look of Cumbria. Loads of green space to get lost in. Enjoy!!

Hey don't worry about it if you ever want to chat you can pm me. My dad died of non hodgkins in 1974 when I was 4 yrs old he was 45 so I have very few memories. I'm very much a get on with it kind of person ...its just how I deal with everything Inc my Lupus . Sometimes I can only deal with 1 thing at a time other occasions I go in like a steam train lol. Peaceful but wet in Cumbria..we are born wearing wellies and waterproofs 😆 xx

Vixen2 profile image
Vixen2 in reply toSpanielmadlady

You’re very kind! Maybe losing your dad at such a young age has made you that way. How sad. 4??? Heartbreaking. It’s of course sad that you don’t have memories of your dad. But in another way. You’ve lost someone you never got to know. So you were never ‘close’. But what a way to ‘start life’.

As i’m getting older. I like cooler weather. The sludge doesn’t bother me as much! Enjoy your wellies & puddles with your dog. (Non dog puddles!!) x

Spanielmadlady profile image
Spanielmadlady in reply toVixen2

It's bizarre as we have all been brought up without dad's. Mums dad died in the war when she was 12,i lost mine age 4 and my son lost his dad age 6 in an rta in 2009. Yes I like colder weather too and we don't mind muddy puddles either. Fleece dog suits are a god send. Well speaking of puddles I've just had 1 very wet son walk through the door for his tea so bye for now xx

Hi SV....your request is my command lol 😆. He is a happy content little soul and a real pleasure. He has in the last couple of weeks started doing as he is told more so maybe hes exiting the airhead adolescent stage 🤞.

Foot op up to now on the NHS app is roughly June .saw elbow surgeon yesterday won't decide until had mri. If it's healing they will inject to reduce inflammation if not they will remove the piece of bone but that could leave joint unstable and prone to dislocation 😳 .I can go back into my sling periodically to take some of the strain off it . I hope you are continuing to Improve. Big hug 🫂 xx
