Sickness
Hi, I was sick all the time before being diagnosed with Lupus sle, but since getting the diagnosis and the right meds the sickness stopped, hope this helps X
I think I feel sick if I eat the wrong foods. There was one day last week, when I ate too many sandwiches - I woke feeling nauseous as well as having my normal aching joints etc.
This week, I'm trying to reduce the amount of bread I eat.
I sometimes suddenly sweat after eating a small piece of chocolate.
So now I'm thinking something may be going on in my gut that causes reactions.
Maybe it is direct intolerance but could also be endocrine or autonomic dysfunction
I'm trying to stick to an anti-inflammatory diet more to see if that helps.
I'll have to bear that in mind...thank you x
For me having covid March 2020 may have been start of some gut related symptoms.
Also, some folk who have covid get it affecting there gut primarily. I did a covid test when I felt sick last week, after I ate the sandwiches. It was negative though.
I did a test and was negative xx
I have had the 'random feeling sick" today. Feeling sick has now happened 3 times in the last fortnight. Never had before.
Thought it may be something from the supermarket, maybe it is a chemical not a bug.
The first time it was well washed lettuce, then last week - too many sandwiches - thought it was the grain used to make the bread..but today can't connect with anything other than exhaustion possibly
It is strange a number of us have the same thing.
Thanks for posting. Good post.
🫣xx
I'm not sure what I've got but have some lupus features and antibodies amongst other things and I feel sick most of the time, often after eating. In fact today I was just thinking how erratic my eating habits are. Sometimes I avoid food at certain times like when I am about to go out somewhere so that I won't need the toilet or feel sick. Then I am over come with lightheadedness and shakiness and need to eat quick, usually something bad for me like white bread and then - guess what? I feel sick!! It's a vicious cycle.
The only thing that bridges the gaps in between food is nuts, of any variety. They fill me up a bit without feeling too full or sick and they're not bad for me. Like with all my complaints I often wonder if it's all in my head but along with the nausea I burp a lot, so there must be something going on in my stomach. I go through phases where I feel sick all night and it wakes me up and I have a 'little cough' so I take Lansoperazole for a while and it goes away.
I do some hardcore walking most days without any trouble but as I type I am sat on the sofa feeling sick because I went out on my bike for the first time in years with my husband and had to tackle 2 small hills and now I feel headachy and sick! We were only out for about 15 minutes and had to turn around because I had forgotten that a bridge on the route was closed for maintenance and actually couldn't take another route because I felt so awful - I just went home.
A long term migraine and cluster headache sufferer, I have never really known what my 'triggers' are but I bet anything I'll wake up with a banging head tomorrow.
One of my major migraine symptoms has been nausea and non stop vomiting. Looking back I have spent a lot of my life throwing up.
Gosh that sounds awful.i don't know what triggers my sickness it just comes . I'm now not well but that doesn't normally happened after a nausea episode. My medication hasn't changed so not sure what's going on. My energy is hit and miss and losing a bit of weight has helped. ( not massively) I might add . Hope you feel better soon x
oh, yes, has Lupus for over 30 years now, have had nausea as long too and Methotrexate has made me even worse x
Hi there
Yes, absolutely, I can relate.
It’s taken time to work out but my nausea is mostly linked in with fatigue. For me, nausea is a warning I’ve pushed myself too far. If I keep going and don’t stop at the nausea stage, the sudden overwhelming fatigue kicks in, like I’ve hit a brick wall and I’ve nothing left in me. If I stop doing things at this nausea stage, the nausea hangs around for a good while and then fades. However, this approach isn’t always practical… Plus, at other times, I’ve absolutely no idea why I feel so sick, it’s not following a pattern, or a particular food, or an activity, or a symptom pattern - it’s just there. And when I’m flaring it’s a case of constant nausea.
One thing I’ve learned is however sick I feel - and I really don’t want to eat at that point - that the best thing for me is to have a few nuts or something small like a protein rich cracker, drink water and rest. For some people nausea is a hunger signal - when hungry acids can be produced by the stomach in readiness for eating a meal and that can make you feel nauseous. Also, some people say peppermint tea helps when you feel sick but it doesn’t do it for me though.
Also, I had Covid pretty badly and it did leave me with constant nausea for approximately 9 months afterwards. Plus, some meds can either cause or exacerbate nausea.
It’s awful and it seems for a lot of us it’s part of our Lupus symptom profile. Not sure if any of this helps at all, but I really do sympathise.
Take care ✨
Thank you that does help. The latest nausea episode i thought it was hunger as I hadn't eaten breakfast so git some when I got to work but I couldn't eat it. I haven't really checked before nausea what I'm doing ir gave eaten or not eaten. I will do that next time. I had covid and as a result nmy lung capacity isn't what it was. I don't think nausea is part of covid but who knows 💁♀️💁♀️ always something new we have to deal with.
Yeah, it’s awful to have to deal with. Sometimes a very small amount of something plain (even a few little bites) can help even if you don’t feel like a meal. Ready salted crisps are something I can easily grab and nibble on, that help me too. Or if eating is a ‘no’, sip bits of fluid as nausea is worsened by less fluids if you’ve not had much to drink.
Covid does affect some people’s gut, there are reports of people having long term nausea or gut issues afterwards. It’s just not on the official government list. My gut was affected by it, vomiting, diarrhoea for days on end, fever, plus chest etc. It’s a strange little 🦠
Hope you soon find the thing that helps you, but if it’s a new thing, constant or frequent, you should see your GP so they can check you out. ✨
Thank you. Its not new as I've had it before but definitely worth letting my GP know x
