I have a question.
Does anyone know if toxemia can be part of lupus?.

Does anyone know if toxemia can be part of lupus?.
Hi Tara1_ ,
There are two definitions of toxemia, so can you let me know which one you mean please?
1) Toxemia can be another term for pre-eclampsia (a condition in pregnancy, characterised by abrupt hypertension, albuminuria and oedema of the hands, feet, and face.)
2) Blood poisoning by toxins from a local bacterial infection.
If you are referring to pre-eclampsia, the risk is higher in people with lupus who also have antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). You can read more about this in our booklet "LUPUS: A Guide to Pregnancy" at lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u...
If you are referring to blood poisoning - people with lupus who have a suppressed immune system from either treatment, or the lupus itself, may be at an increased risk.
