I wondered if anyone could help me, I'm suffering terribly with pain in my neck that I can only describe as a cramp. it feels like a migraine that extends up my neck and over the top of my head but the majority of the pain is actually in my neck.
It starts with a feeling like my muscles are contracting and my head is being pulled into my body. I currently take sumatriptan for migraines but it does not touch the pain in my neck.
Just wanted to know if anyone else experience is the same pain and what they do to make it go away.
This bout I'm having at the moment started yesterday at about 1pm and the pain didn't subside until 4 this morning.
I've had an MRI on my neck in the past but nothing was found but I have suffered with neck pain pretty much forever but this is getting increasingly worse with every episode.
Look forward to hearing from you all and thank you in advance 💕

Morning, I m guessing you made have already been in touch with your doctor just for a piece of mind? You say feels like a migraine pain which is not very nice I know. Last week I tried my cool packs for my head and found that helped (as got 2 that I can switch over in fridge ) it just seemed to give me that little bit of relief. I use bio freeze, rub in gel for my neck /shoulder blades , that differently helps too(normally get it from Boots /Amazon , some people try a wheat bag to wrap round their necks , for some like myself I find the warmth comforting. I sleep on my front and they say that’s not helpful for neck etc but it’s the only way I go off too sleep so I bought a water pillow so it made me more comfy. I know we have the use of over the counter meds or prescribed ones to help with pain but I find taking things very long causes other problems xx
I had the same issue. I always sleep on my side or front. My consultant and physio said sleeping on your front is the worst possible thing you can do and was/is probably the cause of all my head neck and shoulder issues. I was given amytryptyline which helped but unfortunately had to stop as it made my restless legs worse. Now I use an infra red lamp, massage and anything to heat up my neck.
Look at self help chiropratic treatments on youtube, You could be out of alignment. Its amazing how straightness is important. I do neck stretches and mouth. Im currently trying cervical myodural bridge relief with fingers as I get aching across back of neck and full ears, There seems to be pressure point pain too. You could of course see a chiropractic but you need to find one thats understands alignment and the pain. So many are poor. Very much sounds like muscle tightness. Posture is anything to look at. Sticking neck out bad try tucking in chin. There are lots of Cervical and Optical headaches which can be caused by poor posture and poor muscle strength. I would def read up on posture. even with sitting down. Assume also eyes have been tested.
I actually used to regularly go every 5 months to see a chiropractor, but having really sensitive pressure points all over makes me feel a little scared to go!
I'll definitely look up some YouTube videos and see if I can't sort myself out first and once lock down is over I shall definitely visit a chiropractor. It's becoming far too regular now for me to ignore.
I do think I'm also due an eye test so will get that done soon as well.
Any chance you could send me the link for your exercises because I can't find anything through my search, not that great with technology to be honest lol 💕
It’s called chicken exercise 😂. There are also neck strengthening exercises. Mainly sitting up straight. Place right hand on right side of upper head and push head into hand as hard as possible counting to 5 and release. (Don’t move head or hand). Do this several times on either side of head.
Have you asked your GP for a referral to a Neurologist. Perhaps they can then suggest an MRI scan to view any issues with your cranial nerves. Thanks.
Yes I get exactly the same hate head pain it’s stays for hours. I don’t know really wat else to do but I take my normal pres tablets but I also take paracetamol and ibuprofen to shift it, it does tend to ease then.
