Disimpaction......are we there yet?

Hi everyone.

Currently day 14 of our first disimpaction with our 5yr old. Followed GP advice to follow regime for 1-5yr olds for first 8 days. I spoke to GP who told us to start reducing then 'as she had a good clear out'. I wasn't happy with that, and spoke to ERIC on day 9, who advised to up to 10, the max of 12. We've had 3 days on 12. Past few days have been similar consistency to photos in comment. No lumps, dark specks are Kiwi seeds. We had a few on the toilet, one of which I was there and heard a massive gush. Obviously hard to tell when mixed with toilet water but was very light in colour, with only a couple floaty bits. The rest have been in a pull up and soaked in pretty quickly, the small amounts are what I could pour into potty. Last one is the last 'stool' we had last night. Very soon after a larger amount. Not had anything yet today. Are we there yet? Getting harder to get daughter to take fluids, as she is understandably getting fed up and missing nursery.

Thanks in advance. I'm so worried to do the wrong thing, but also worried about how much time she is missing in pre-school.

2 night ago. 4 of this consistency in quick succession. Small amount as all I could pour out of pull up as soaking in instantly.

Last night. Potty makes it look thicker, I do have a video that shows how watery but not sure I can add it.

Last movement last night. Within 30 minutes of larger amount, but this was straight into potty.

Dear GirlMum2009 , we think you are nearly there, however it's very difficult to tell from a photograph. The guidance is 'rusty water with bits in' (the bits will be undigested food). You only need to see this on two occasions to know that the backlog is cleared.

If you saw kiwi seeds, and she had had kiwi 24-36 hours before or less, this is a good indication that food is passing through (see our 'sweetcorn test' page). We know it's so hard to get this much fluid into a small child and you are doing so well. Your GP might suggest adding a stimulant laxative to speed things up at this point. Have you listened to our podcasts on disimpaction?

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Yes I've listened to the podcasts. Just so much conflicting advice and information its a bit confusing. After posting this we had a movement with a bit more 'fluffy" bits in and a bit darker in colour. I am assuming this may mean the laxido is still working on some old poo in the bowel. We've since had a mix of sludge, which becomes more watery as the day goes on. I called our GP yesterday morning, but unfortunately have to wait until late afternoon tomorrow to actually speak to anyone other than a receptionist. I have mentioned about a stimulant, so will see what they say tomorrow. Unfortunately it will be a different GP to who we've spoken to previously (and the 3rd since we went with the issue to them in the first place) but hoping we will get somewhere. She has Kiwi most days so hard to tell how quick but sweetcorn not as often, so that will probably be easier to monitor.

A positive today though. Our daughter, for the first time ever took herself to the toilet to do a poo. So she must have recognised some signals. This is a huge step for her as just prior to starting all this she had only used the toilet for it a couple of times, with me watching her like a hawk for signals and prompting her. Hopefully a step in the right direction to sort out her toileting issues.

Thanks again.
