Seroquel at low doses is effective for insomnia. At higher doses it can treat bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Though to be honest (I am a psych nurse) I haven't seen many cases of typical bipolar or schizophrenia treated with just seroquel effectively. These patients typically need a mood stabilizer or another antipsychotic to help them. So it is all about if it helps your wife. Insomnia can be torture. Side effects are morning grogginess and weight gain, though not so bad at lower doses. In PD, seroquel is the only antipsychotic that I knw of ok'd for use in PD patients and it can help later in the disease if PD psychosis happens. I'm guessing she is on just 25 or 50 mg at night? Psych patients take typically 300 - 800 and more mg. so it is ok, if it helps.....

I take 75mg Seroquel at night, prescribed to help mitigate very vivid dreams and or nightmares that my PD causes. It definitely makes a difference. In my case it does nothing towards helping me to sleep but I take a sleeping pill for that!

I was prescribed klonopin for insomnia, apparently also mainly used to treat another condition primarily. Works for me unless I'm in too much pain.

Seroquel (quetiapine) in low dosages (25mg) is an effective drug to help Parkinson's patients sleep. I've been taking it for about two years and it has been great. I don't have the morning "hangover" that some drugs cause.

I took Klonopin for sleep for a long time, then the doctor decided not to give it to me anymore and have been slowly reducing the dose. I have great difficulty sleeping at all now. I don't think he really understands how sleep deprived you get with PD!

I have had the best success - falling asleep and sleeping through the night - 8 to 8 hours sometimes - with 3mg Melatonin.

I had been prescribed Lunesta, but it only lasted about 2 hours.
