Refractory CLL means that the cancer is resistant to a specific treatment, the treatment no long works.
This sometimes occurs after a patient has been treated one or more times with a specific drug...
I had 6 rounds of fludarabine in an FR protocol, and by round 5 the fludarabine was no longer working... so I'm fludarabine refractory.
Good question - it took me a while to figure it out!
