Decompensated liver

good morning, following on from my post a few weeks ago about my brother, a couple of weeks after I posted he was admitted into hospital again with fluid in the lungs, kept on critical care for a couple of weeks on a chest drain, It was decided by the doctors that the chest drain was serving no purpose as the fluid was not stopping so it was removed and he was admitted to a liver ward .over the next few weeks he had severe ascticis , buildup of bile in stomach which had to have a drain in to remove it, about 8 litres and was in constant pain, only morphine could give some relief, after about 4 weeks it was decided that there was nothing else that could be done for him so the doctors told him that he was going to die, his last wishes were that he could die at home, with a massive effort from the NHS he was allowed home after a couple of days, he slowly deteriorated over the course of a few days and peacefully passed away surrounded by his family. Alcohol related liver disease is a terrible disease to witness any one going through so I would urge anyone who has been told by their doctors to stop drinking alcohol DO IT for the sake of you and your family. Thanks for reading may he rest in peace

My condolences, so awful for you and your family. I am so glad I changed my life choices. I still have cirrhosis, that's not going away, but I'm still sober over 1.5 years now and no chance of going back.

I really wish you all the very best, take one day at a time and thank you for your posts.

Much love x

Alcoholism almost got me. Close to death twice. It is a tragic, horrible disease that kills more people than reported. They list so many deaths to the symptoms and not to alcoholism. So sorry for your loss. May God bless your brother and family.

Very sad to read your post about your dear brother. At least he was able to request his last wish to be at home with his loving family before his life came to an end. You will have very happy memories of the times when you were growing up with your brother and, likewise, I am sure he would have reflected on these at certain points in his life. He is at peace now and you, as a much loving brother, did all you could for him. My hearfelt thoughts to all.
